I just see a notification on my oh phone from the app Kik? Does anyone know what this is? They have sent him a message but I don't know his password. I've never heard of this app in my life

Its a messaging app that you create an ID for so you share your kik id with other people that have kik but may or may not have your number.

Lyn29 · 10/09/2023 00:04

Sorry for the AIbu I wasn't sure where to put this and I needed quick answers...... please

Google it?

Sloelydoesit · 10/09/2023 00:06

Usually used for secretive reasons.
If it was normal chat then you would use the normal channels

cherryassam · 10/09/2023 00:06

It’s a messaging app

YerAWizardHarry · 10/09/2023 00:06

It’s a messaging app that is often used to keep identities private as you don’t need to share your phone number.

cherryassam · 10/09/2023 00:06

Yes I also associate it being used when you don’t want someone to know your phone number / real information

Alargeoneplease89 · 10/09/2023 00:06

When you don't want someone to have your number. It's normally used for hook ups.

lto2019 · 10/09/2023 00:59

According to Google - Kik is primarily a messaging app, but it also has internal apps, including Flirt!, a Tinder-like experience that serves up potential matches to the user—encouraging them to swipe for their preferred matches.

ReadySalty · 10/09/2023 01:04

People use it for affairs.
It's quite grubby.

He might be in an extra marital website too. Can you dig into that?

coxesorangepippin · 10/09/2023 01:07

Like a flirting text service

Sexting etc

Flamedmoth · 10/09/2023 01:11

I've used kik. Sometimes it's more available than other messaging apps in other companies

It's not reliant on your number, so people might use it if they are distrustful of main stream apps like WhatsApp and don't want messaging activity linked to them by companies etc. I have one friend for example that solely uses it as its less traceable and she is big on privacy and anti government snooping..

Not using your number means its a good alternative when you are also not comfortable with the person you are messaging having your number. So for example selling things online, but also group chats of people who meet online eg gamers circles where you wouldn't the whole group to have your number. It's helpful for online friends and big group chats of colleagues etc

It is also used when people message people via things like only fans, or cam sites because of this.

I prefer it to what's app etc and would use it more if I could convince others to be on it more but use WhatsApp because that's what others use

If they are sending him a password it's possible he's only just setting up an account and checking out what it's like.

Divebar2021 · 10/09/2023 01:18

It attracts a lot of spam emails and you can have “groups” of some kind ( around some interest or other ) - so group chat basically. Spam emails are all scantily clad women.

Qwertyyui · 10/09/2023 01:30

I only used it when I was messing about with guys I didn't want a relationship with. Saved having to change my number when I didnt want to talk to them anymore. Its not something you use with people you know. If my husband had kik on my phone I would assume the worst and think he was messaging someone he shouldn't be. Nobody in a relationship should be using it as far as I am concerned.

CherryCokeFanatic · 10/09/2023 01:32

Yep common for escorts or meeting normal people for shagging or sexting

Aquamarine1029 · 10/09/2023 01:47

Cheaters love Kik.

Hermittrismegistus · 10/09/2023 02:28

Needed quick answers but didn't just Google or look up in the App Store?

Legale · 10/09/2023 02:31

It's a messaging app, but like others I've only really heard of it being used for seedy reasons (cheating, hook-ups, etc.).

greengobbledygook · 10/09/2023 02:40

He's most probably either cheating or buying/selling dr*gs basically

jellytable · 10/09/2023 02:49

These are my thoughts too.

’secret’ messaging app…. Don’t need to use your number for it and whenever you log
out, all messages delete. Deffo ask
him about it

Lyn29 · 10/09/2023 08:26

Hi all for your answer. I did Google it straight away but I thought all the answers on there were quite mixed so wanted to hear over peoples opinions. I did ask him and he said to message his best friend. I'm just trying to process this all

LadyWithLapdog · 10/09/2023 08:36

Good morning. I’m sorry you’re waking up to uncertainty on your 40th. It doesn’t sound like your OH would need this app to communicate with his best friend so you’re right to feel cautious about whether he’s telling the truth. I hope things turn out ok or salvageable at this stage.

Lyn29 · 10/09/2023 08:38

Thank you @LadyWithLapdog his just gone to walk the dog while I'm just staring at my daughter thinking what should I do!!
