To love going out for dinner

I unashamedly love going out for dinner and cocktails and wines …. We live in Canada so get pretty amazing summers spent by the lake or on patios or in the city.
I must spend insane amounts of money of this … don’t add it up … but I really enjoy it.
I can afford it so it’s not an issue but …. I think I’m probably spending too much and should rein it in a bit! Then I get to weekend and really wanna go out ….. anyone else ?
rough guess I’m spending upwards of 500 per month of this … but also can spend 200 ish on one fancy place with cocktails etc but if I enjoy it then maybe I shouldn’t worry ?

How often do you eat out? I love to eat out - more than dh though, unfortunately.

Frances0911 · 09/09/2023 21:29

Some people have expensive hobbies, so if this is what you enjoy doing out of work and can afford it then why not.

LizardLizard · 09/09/2023 21:30

Not unreasonable at all and it’s never, ever a waste of money. Love it.

@Didimum do you ever cringe at how much you spend on it ?

Well, I actually barely go out anymore because I work full time and have 5yr old twins 😂BUT I could easily spend £500 a month on this if that wasn’t the case.

So it sounds like you've got money to spare and you're putting it back into the economy instead of hoarding it. Even if someone we're trying to shame you for "wasting" money (I most definitely am not), you're actually doing something quite positive for society with your money. I am however insanely jealous. I absolutely love eating out and we just can't afford to do it very often.

@Shopper727 it is lovely 😊 sometimes pinch myself how lucky we are !

@ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine Thank you , interesting point of view it’s actually contributing to someone’s livelihood! A lot of the servers are obviously low paid wages but are brilliant and rely on tips so it also nice knowing they get a decent tip when your spending a good chunk.

@Acinonyx2 twice per week I guess so not loads, maybe a lunch with a friend mid-week aswell .. worse at the moment as we’ve had some great weather and it just makes me want to get in the sun with a nice view, sipping a cold glass of wine and ordering yummy food.

I do especially like a meal with a good view :) Heartening to see others enjoy this and I'm not unusual for wishing I could go out more.

Kay286 · 09/09/2023 21:59

@YukoandHiro I will ! I rarely post on fb or anything like that it’s not a … look at us thing either :) I’m really conscious at the moment a lot of people can’t do this :(

If you enjoy it and afford it, why even question it? I love eating and drinking out - my main constraint is not being able to afford it.

Kay286 · 09/09/2023 22:15

@BlueLiquid love it !!

Kay286 · 09/09/2023 22:38

@PinkRoses1245 I’m questioning it because I do know it’s a lot of money and wondering if people do the same or are we just wasteful and silly …(I have been broke before too where 10 quid fish and chips was a treat)
we decided this weekend to try and be good and not go out … and now I just want to and wondering why I’m denying it on my weekend off work 🤷‍♀️

Same

I spend more money on eating out than I do anything else

I love it!

SuperNewMe · 09/09/2023 23:25

You said you can afford it and enjoy it, so I'm not seeing a problem?!
Go for it, enjoy!

Thunderpunt · 09/09/2023 23:41

We do the same, DH is a chef and we have a restaurant. Going out to eat and for someone else to cook and serve great food and delicious wine to us is what we spend our money on. I'm sure some friends think we must be crazy but I love it
