Selco trying to diddle me!

Just wanted opinions as to whether IABU or not.

I ordered 30 lengths of wood, size on their website stated 3200mm. I need 96 meters of wood for a project.

I received 30 x 2100mm, so over 33 meters short.

When I spoke to them they said the price was per meter and I would have to pay more to get the correct amount (96 meters). They also said I have already received double the amount I should have as it is priced per meter, so they clearly didn't realise either or they would have just sent 15.

There was nowhere to select how many meters or what length etc. Just price per unit. So looked at the specification tab and it said 38 x 3200.

I think they should send what was advertised, or send another 16 lengths of 2100mm at their expense to make up the shortfall.

AIBU?

Have you got a link to the listing?

BarbaraofSeville · 09/09/2023 16:07

It's not just the shortage but those pieces could be completely useless if you need whole lengths 3 metres long for example.

OP posts:
BarbaraofSeville · 09/09/2023 16:08

But is the listing clear or misleading and what does your order confirmation say about what you've bought and paid for?

ragin · 09/09/2023 16:10

@BarbaraofSeville

That is true, I wanted to make some obelisks, so have already had to amend the design.

Now they will be short and stubby. 😄

OP posts:
ragin · 09/09/2023 16:12

I think it is misleading, as they still sent 30 lengths of wood, not 30 meters, which if they are correct, they would have only sent 15 lengths.

Nowhere does it say the length is 2100mm.

OP posts:
Sinamin · 09/09/2023 16:17

Surely you needed to order 90 meters if that's what you needed?

The dimensions given are for width and depth not length - 38 x 32mm.

This product is priced per metre but is supplied in longer lengths.

ragin · 09/09/2023 16:20

@Sinamin

But there is nowhere to select the lengths so I looked at the spec, saw 3200mm, so ordered 30.

It is sold as price per unit on their website, not price per meter.

Also if they did sell it per meter, why did they send me 66 meters?

OP posts:
ragin · 09/09/2023 16:28

Sorry 63 meters

OP posts:
Lactarius · 09/09/2023 16:33

The website you linked to clearly states This product is priced per metre but is supplied in longer lengths so I believe that you have received what you ordered

Truthlikeness · 09/09/2023 16:35

Someone's entered the figure wrong on their website, I think. I shows width as 3200mm, when it should be 32mm (as per the title of the product). It does clearly say the product is priced per M. I think if you got some extra, I'd be happy with that mistake. I don't think you'll be able to get more out of them

SisterMichaelsHabit · 09/09/2023 16:37

It literally says "This product is priced per metre but is supplied in longer lengths." in massive writing on the page and you don't have to scroll to see it.
Sorry, YABU.

TheAOEAztec · 09/09/2023 16:37

Thsre is a mistake on their spwcs. They meant width 32mm not 3200mm

TheAOEAztec · 09/09/2023 16:37

Ah x posted

SisterMichaelsHabit · 09/09/2023 16:37

Also that's a bloody good price for wood, IDK how you could possibly expect three times that amount of wood for that price.

Sorry, YABU.

But if the OP ordered 96 metres and received 63 metres, whatever lengths it came in she's still been diddled.

My inner teenage boy is now making me post how this thread is reminding me of one of my favourite ever bumper stickers 'I've had a length from Howarth Timber' where Howarth Timber is a well known local timber supplier Grin

She ordered 30 units. Which should have been 30 metres. She's received double what she paid for. Whatever she thought she was ordering, she actually ordered and paid for 30m. She's been the opposite of diddled.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 09/09/2023 16:42

If she wanted 96m she needed to order 96 of them not 30 and pay accordingly. 🤷‍♀️

ragin · 09/09/2023 16:44

It is a quandary. Am I the diddler or the diddlee?

I don't order wood much, so didn't know it was a good price.

Edited

Ah, I see. OP how much did you pay? It says £1.74 per metre and if you put 30 in the box, you should have got 30 metres and paid just over £50.

Thatladdo · 09/09/2023 17:04

Their figures are messed up yes however it does clearly state priced per meter.

It actualy says 38 x 3200m and im going to take a wild guess that you werent expecting lengths of timber over 3km long ?

😂I though they missed off an "M"

I genuinely thought I ordered 30 x 3.2 meter lengths.

OP posts:
Thatladdo · 09/09/2023 17:10

They have just made a dogs dinner of entering sizes.
Im not sure where the argument about them using the wrong sizes Vs you not reading/querying the information would go, but at a wild guess they wont loose out and it seems you got a great price for what you got so...

Moral of the story? - trust no one!! 😆
