they are rich (13 bed house) and have 2 full time members of staff. Plus others. They told my milaw 'it's such a shame that we can't recycle because we just don't have the facilities' when pressed they said because they don't have kerbside collection (mind you maybe its the mile long drive that's the problem...)

aaarh!!!!!

I think it is easy for most people-for example,we have weekly council collections, bottle banks, an exchange project near us and there is awlays freecycle on the internet, dd's school always needs tstuff for junk-modelling..I could go on!!
What I find are the number of people of here who are proud of not recycling!!

madamez · 04/03/2008 14:10

I don't actually think anyone has said they are proud of not recycling - or even that they don;t recyle much. What the sensible ones are saying is that there is some doubt about the usefulness of recycling AS IT IS HANDLED BY SOME COUNCILS, and that a lot of shreiking and footstamping by a bunch of farting vegans isn't going to make anyone throw out their ability to question things and make rational decisions as opposed to going, oh, you're expressing so much emotion, you must be right.

mrsruffallo · 04/03/2008 14:13

A bunch of farting vegans???!!!
Are you quite mad?
And the council thing is just an excuse

madamez · 04/03/2008 14:14

THis thread is just getting funnier by the minute.

mrsruffallo · 04/03/2008 14:19

Do you understand the concept of recycling mz?

girlfrommars · 04/03/2008 14:27

Madamez, you're right about some of the councils. I know that some do separate collections and then dump it all in landfill, because they get grants based on collecting the rubbish, not on recycling it.

I even know of one area where the councils plan for collections was blocked by people's protests, because they discovered that the council was starting collections to help it meet the criteria for building a huge incinerator.

I still think it's worth trying to recycle though, because I can't see landfill as a longterm solution.

Divastrop · 04/03/2008 16:07

i never said i was proud of not recycling-i just said i dont care about all this 'save the planet' hype.if my council provided a box and told me what to put in it,and when it would be collected, then i would do it(dont know where i would put it though, the kitchen bin is constantly being moved around to access various doors/cupboards as it is).

madamez-you have been on form the past couple of days,i have to say.this thread is funny.

still not getting this connection between animal rights and the environment, though(but it used to confuse me back when i was a vegan and people used to ask if i was a member of greenpeace also)

i'm just imagining the reactions i'd get if i strted a preachy thread about the things that i care passionatley about.

ska · 04/03/2008 16:27

oh go on do, i need a good laugh

I think greyriverside makes some valid points. Madamez, your message might not be very different but I find it ironic that you are doing the one thing you accuse the so-called hysterical greenies of doing. Being hysterical(ly funny) yourself and losing your audience in the process. Pity.

drosophila · 04/03/2008 22:50

I do recycle but I have a nagging feeling that it is a load of old nonsence but just in case it's true I will continue. I do wonder at DP though who loves a trip to the dump and wonder if he notices the petrol he is using etc.....

I am always a bit wary of the new religion but for years I talked to God 'just in case....'
