Wallpapering - llama's feet. Aibu?

Employed a professional decorator to hang this cute llama wallpaper in my loo, but when he'd gone and I was sitting "on the throne" I noticed he'd hung it in such a way that the top line where the wall meets the ceiling is a line of disembodied feet.

Aibu to think he should have cut the paper so that the top line depicts whole llamas?

That’s really why I don’t much like wallpaper. I’m always looking at the repeating pattern and being bothered by it. Cut off bits and corners etc

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 09/09/2023 12:39

They’ve done a llamatable job OP.

LIZS · 09/09/2023 12:42

Such a shame. Have you paid him already?

Thatbloodyhedge · 09/09/2023 12:45

You like and paid for that wallpaper?
😀

Maybe he started above the door with the line of writing, and everything flows from there (grasping for straws!). Pretty shoddy to leave that strip out though.

With the painting on glass, my DH always insisted on doing it like that because we have wooden frames, it seals the edge to stop water getting in the putty/frame. We do however tidy up the edges with a special scraping tool.

I'm sorry, he's not done a very good job at all.

i have learnt through various more expensive situations to never assume anyone has common sense/same preferences.

personally I'd request a refund for the whole job. Then I'd leave it a while & see how much it bothers you. If it does bother you, pay to get it done again(or do it yourself)with that paper or another.

it's quite quirky, if you can't have a bit of quirk in the downstairs loo, where can you?

the gap by the door, I'd just shove a bit of wallpaper up myself if you have any leftovers or paint the same colour as the door frame.

he's no professional

callamatous · 09/09/2023 14:02

I'm sure he'll get his comeuppance. At the hands of the karma llama.

MidlandCatGirl · 09/09/2023 14:14

Sorry to be so critical but that’s not the work of a professional decorator and £20 per hour is not the rate of one either.

A professional decorator takes the time to ensure the correct placement of the pattern so there are no disembodied bits. Sometimes due to the height of the wall there is no option but to cut through part of the pattern but in this instance a professional would either ask you what you’d prefer (“disembodied heads or legs?”) or make the decision themselves on what would look better.

In the case of your wallpaper there was zero excuse for the llamas to be cut in half. Simply lazy decorating.

Do not get him back to correct it, considering he missed a strip I doubt it’ll end well. As others have said get some coving and fit that to cover the llama legs.

fairyfluf · 09/09/2023 14:18

Sorry but I love it. Its meant the heads are peeping up at the bottom and that's so cute!

I could not do a shit with all them llamas in there.

🤣🤣🤣

quiteoldad · 09/09/2023 19:44

Mumsnet once again reminds us of the importance of being well hung.

quiteoldad · 09/09/2023 20:19

The top row are actually all looking towards the right. They're the Starmer Llamas.

You employed a bodger , I’d start again and find someone better .

That is exactly what I am doing. Got a quote yesterday, he starts work soon. Different paper.

I'd already rang him before I saw your post. He said he could not insert the missing strip as he'd thrown away the several metres of paper left of the roll. I asked how, then, he was going to rectify it, and suggested he would have to pay for a second roll (it's £7). I also mentioned the paint on the glass and the fact that the holes for the stay don't line up with the pins. He told me to "f* off" and hung up.

This man has several excellent reviews on NextDoor, which is why I hired him. So I left an honest, polite and dispassionate review of his company, which was reported for "public shaming" and removed by the mods. I re-posted it and have now been given a three-day ban for "disrespect".

Now I see why all his reviews are positive - he must get every negative one removed!

Tabitha1960. Oh my god, he really was no decorator was he, what a nasty person. I wonder how many people were pressured in to leaving a positive review?
