School uniform Logos

Hi just wondering what peoples thoughts are on school uniform logos for primary school children. The school my children attend have asked for this year for them to have school logo jumpers polo shirts etc. This has only been implemented this year. In the past I have purchased school logo jumpers but found the quality was not great and £17 a jumper in comparison to Asda 2 jumpers for £7 or the younger ones 2 jumpers for £5. Does this seem quite unreasonable to ask especially with the cost of living crisis I have sent mine with Asda/ matalan uniform as the quality is better and cheaper and can not really afford to pay for logo items. Am I being unreasonable or is the school and should I just buy logo uniform. I just feel it should have been implemented from the start of reception if that was what they wanted.

Our school specifies logos but I barely see any kids wearing them and we don’t. Never been a problem and school haven’t said anything yet. We get the Asda ones instead as they wash a lot better and cheaper. I can’t afford to pay for logo jumpers for dd to lose 5 a week! I’m sure they’ve said before that the logo jumper/cardigan is needed for when they have school photo day.

Don't see the point in them... especially since then they give them all high vis jackets the moment they step off the grounds!

The only thing I've bought from the school in the last few years have been the ties... which cost £3.50 each.

The Secondary school is cutting down the logo items as well... theoretically all you have to buy direct now is the tie, blazer and pe top. Everything else is generic. (Except the skirts being tartan but ygirls can wear trousers)

Our dc's school is really good and specifies that although logo polos and sweatshirts are available to buy they don't specifically need to wear logoed items and supermarket versions are more than fine. Even for school photos, events etc they're not expected and that's exactly how I think each school should be.

DC is in year one now, for reception last year I did buy two logo sweatshirts but this year we've not got one single thing as noone else in their class does either. I find the supermarket version holds out better, is obviously miles cheaper and considering how messy they are (constant pen, mud and food stains!) They need to be replaced more often than I would like anyway.

I've not bought a single logo item for mine. He just started reception. I don't see any kids from his class wearing them either.

Back in the “old days” you used to be able
to buy the logos and put them
on items yourself. I don’t know why they don’t do this now. Presumably the vast majority of the population couldn’t manage it.

Out local primaries have it as optional, plain supermarket items are allowed but the logo items aren’t expensive.

Tell them to jog on.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/09/2023 09:49

Our have logo stuff available but not compulsory. I like them for school trips, class assembly, class photos so I buy 1 per kid (jumper) and 2xper kid (polo). T-shirts can be one of two shades of the colour, bottoms are grey or black. They're as flexible as you could reasonably ask.
Also tbf the jumpers are decent l, last the year and the t-shirts wear as well if not better than some supermarkets

We have the option to buy logo'd polos, bags, hats, coats, pe tops etc etc etc, but the only logo'd item I buy is the jumper. I like the idea of there being a logo as there are a few schools nearby who wear the same colour jumper and if, for whatever reason, DS was lost in our town (separated on the walk to swimming lessons for example), people would be able to identify what school he was from and be able to help him easier. Also teachers can spot their students in the same example.

I don't agree with enforcing a full logo'd school uniform as it's just too expensive!

When I was in primary school, my school sold logo patches so parents could sew/glue the patches onto supermarket jumpers/polos if they wanted to.

SockQueen · 06/09/2023 09:52

Ours only has the logo on the sweatshirt/cardigan and book bag. All the rest can come from wherever you like. The jumpers are not as expensive as yours though - I think £9.99, and there are plenty of second hand ones both at the school and on local FB groups.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 06/09/2023 09:53

Mine doesn’t even specify a colour of polo shirt, let alone logo! There are some logo items available I think? But I don’t know anyone who has more than 1 item.

my daughter is year 5, and has never had anything other than a logo book bag.

Soubriquet · 06/09/2023 09:54

Our primary school have logos but don’t insist on them and in primary school I don’t think they should either

Dolores87 · 06/09/2023 10:03

I would just ignore the request and send in supermarket uniform.

Georgeandzippyzoo · 06/09/2023 10:23

Many schools have a logo jumper etc but mostt do not insist you buy them, as long you have the correct colour top ie navy blue. I help in my dh school and its about 50/50. Our dc schools sweatshirts were great quality so I would buy them. You could get initials sewn on , great for sorting butcould rarely be passed into others so I didn't bother.
Recently dh school rebranded after joining an academy so they have a new badge however children can wear jumpers with the old style logo until the clothing needs replacing, so currently they have children in old logo, new logo and no logo jumpers.

I thought there was a law being put in place that prevents schools from enforcing logos. A friend of mine who is a headteacher mentioned something about it last year but no idea if it was put through yet.
