1st day back at work after a short holiday. DP is still off work until next week.
Came in the door exhausted.
DP said I have vacuumed all through today.
I said Oh, great, 😀 but the stairs have still got bits on them?
DP - I didn't do the stairs!
Oh so you did upstairs but not the stairs?
DP - No I didn't do upstairs!
So when you say all through you just mean hall, living room, kitchen?
DP - of course I didn't do the kitchen!
Lighthearted and not a man bashing thread btw, my DM also says vacuumed all through when she means one room. In my mind all through means all the house.
YABU = don't be weird all through just means the room you are in most.
YANBU all through means the whole house.

Your nitpicking is not going to encourage him to work harder next time. I'd probably say something like that when I'd quickly hoovered downstairs before visitors arrive.

Totaly · 05/09/2023 18:05

I hate the saying!

Say what you mean - I vacuumed the bedroom’

Desecratedcoconut · 05/09/2023 18:08

Nitpicking? Hoovering all through would mean hoovered top to bottom, thoroughly.

Saying you hoovered all through but you just shoved it around the living room is like saying you'll put together dinner and then handing everyone a bag of crisps.

Gingernaut · 05/09/2023 18:08

"All through", to me, would be start at the top of the house work my way down the stairs and then the downstairs

"All through", to me, means all through the house.

He seems to have thought all through from front to back - the bits visitors would see

Lol, exactly.

I will be almost hoovering throughout tomorrow! Almost because I won't be doing a guest room (closed when not in use)! But I will start upstairs and work my way down finishing by the back door in yhe utility room, will also be dusting surfaces too... I will be hot and bothered thanks to the weather forecast but the house will look fab.. (For about an hour)

ibblebibbledibble · 05/09/2023 18:27

I would have no idea what you were talking about 😀 I’ve never heard the saying

VeloVixen · 05/09/2023 18:28

Not a phrase I’d use but I could at a stretch see how someone might mean they’d vacuumed through (the downstairs) and not done the stairs but then that would include the kitchen!

Whyohwhyohwhy123 · 05/09/2023 18:29

All the house

Spacemoon · 05/09/2023 18:31

To me if I'd hoovered just the downstairs I'd say exactly that, that I'd hoovered downstairs. If I'd hoovered upstairs, downstairs and the stairs I'd say throughout and if I'd pulled sofa's, beds, furniture etc out I'd say I'd done a 'thorough hoover'

SiouxseeSioux · 05/09/2023 21:03

To me it means every room in the house & the stairs
