I've not watched TM since Ruth & Eamon and was off sick today so flicking channels. At the start of the program, Alison jumped on Jason Donovan to the laughter of Holly who said she 'mounted him' It was gutter TV and very unprofessional. I wonder what the reaction would have been if the mounting was the other way round? Shockingly bad presenters.

Of all the awards last night this one really made me happy.

Mixed feelings here - I quite like the Repair Shop (but would rather they stuck to the repairs rather than the "Can we make a member of the public cry on telly" show - the fact that the clip they chose to show on NTAs included no repairing was telling), and I don't like This Morning.

But one natural conclusion if a show wins a show for twelve years straight with one presenter and then stops winning as soon as he leaves is that its success was all down to the loathsome Phil, and I'd rather not think that.

I rather like Alison, but not enough to watch This Morning.

I’ve never understand why Holly is so popular, she’s like one of those mean girls from school and as fake as you can get - as well as being a rubbish presenter/‘journalist’. She totally dropped PS to save her career but I don’t think anyone believes she didn’t know what was going on.

I really hope Alison doesn’t ruin Bake Off, I’m not convinced she’s the right choice.

CherryCokeFanatic · 06/09/2023 07:49

Alison is a big lady. Ouch!

Angrycat2768 · 06/09/2023 07:54

I like Alison when she does the interviews with film stars. She really seems to put them at ease and make them laugh. I can't watch his morning, mainly because of Holly. She is just so insincere and fake. I bet they won't do the stupid.' Oh, we're sooooo drunk. We just rolled in from the NTA's nonsense this year! What is interesting is that the DM is going for her, and it's since she left that shady talent agency. Just goes to show the symbiotic relationships in the tabloid media with these 'stars', especially ITV light entertainment. If you are in the club you can do whatever you like, and they will print endless deflecting stories about you walking your dog and slagging off your ex wife for breathing while in possession of a divorce settlement, but when you are out, you are out.

Alison is very good in small doses but too much for a whole show

Autumnleaves4 · 06/09/2023 08:01

I can’t stand Alison and have no idea how TV bosses rate her. She is so crass and comes across as so fake ‘cheery’ , her laugh is terrible and she seems to have so many hang ups I can’t believe she is the best we have to anchor a popular daily show. Holly is also too ‘twee’ and unnaturally cheerful it just doesn’t seem real. How do these people get these jobs.

LeicesterPiggot · 06/09/2023 08:15

I love Alison. She’s an absolute joy. I love that she doesn’t fit the usual tv stereotype, and while not everything she does is funny (the BAFTA segments this year were cringe), she’s a damn sight more watchable and genuine than smug and insincere Holly, or anodyne robot Rochelle.

AutumnCrow · 06/09/2023 08:15

I hope it's more the case that the whole ship and all who sail in her are seen as toxic. What with the allegations of cover-ups and collusion, it could be that far from any NTA voters missing PS, they have lumped the whole lot of them in together as one entity and rejected the whole thing?

And I can't imagine scenes like the one described in the OP are the way to rebuild a damaged daytime brand. It sounds like something from the 1980s late night Channel 4 (and not in a good way).

It's gutter lowest common denominator stuff now.

On the plus side it's probably forcing people off the sofa or to the radio in the morning and lunchtimes.

Holly is so past it professionally it's only her tv producer husband that's forcing the situation, it must be, it's so cringe I don't know how they haven't all swallowed themselves up like mouldy orange peel.

She really ought to read the room and bow out, she's like her mate Boris Johnson clinging on to the job despite knowing full well it's over and she's fucked it up.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving phoney.

Wow. Don't sit on the fence! There are a lot worse people to worry about...

mydogisthebest · 06/09/2023 08:40

Can't stand Holly with the silly giggling but dislike Alison more. Far too loud, awful laugh, saying "babes" all the time. I dread to think what Bake Off is going to be like this year with her in it. She likes to be centre of attention all the time

LadyBird1973 · 06/09/2023 08:47

I think they could rescue this show by bringing back Ruth and pairing her with someone like Rylan. They seem to have a genuine friendship and would be good together.
I like Alison but feel her talent was best utilised in interviewing celebrities because she really is so natural and adds a bit of life to the interview rounds that must be really boring for film stars, who may have talked to 10 people already before getting to the Alison interview.

Also like Rochelle. She does seem genuinely lovely. And Josie.

I've never understood the Phil and Holly appeal - they were so smug and forgot they were there to entertain us and not each other. Holly firmly hitched her wagon to Phil and having done so, can't convince the viewer that she was an innocent bystander. Her image is toxic now. But maybe she's just going to ride it out and hope for the best. Maybe she'd get away with that if she had a strong personality or something to offer that a million other presenters didn't have. To me, at best she's bland.

Alison is the epitome of uncouth but i guess she appeals to someone somewhere

Snob

User16328715 · 06/09/2023 08:50

Out of all the presenters, Ruth was the best, more similar to Richard and Judy and Anne and Nick,

I agree with you, it’s funny it’s taken a good while for me to like Alison a lot, she’s sooo much improved since she started hosting TM, I’m pleased for her success.

Always loved Holly right up to the minute PS left and then she lost her appeal for no particular reason.

She just feels a bit old hat to be on that programme now, I like the Alison, Josie, Dermott, the Irish guy and thought Steve Jones was great!

We call it the Despair Shop, never used to be like that. Taken a great little show and ruined it to appeal to a mass audience

Are we all just ignoring this? Ok…

Watch ‘This Morning’ or don’t. Say that you don’t like the style of presentation or the way it’s done. But there’s no need at all for personal attacks on people, particularly regarding their appearance.

And the dog whistle stereotypes going on here are horrible.

SurelyBassey · 06/09/2023 09:10

I'm not watching anymore there is no quality to it anymore imo
It's just loud and crass

tennesseewhiskey1 · 06/09/2023 09:11

I thought she left like PS - ive never seen This Morning before, but i thought they left together. No idea what shes like, but the few times ive heard her, the sound of her smug apology annoyed me.

Agree with that...very snobbish.

Regards Alison, she is a very bubbly character so I can understand the 'good in small doses' comment (especially love her doing interviews). I think she's fine doing the whole show though and see her being good on GBBO.

Mrsjayy · 06/09/2023 09:16

I like Alison Hammond she's gregarious and just fun to watch I'm glad she's gone to bake off it has been dreary since it went to ch4. It always astounds me that the people who hate this morning and its presenters always watch This Morning to slap off This Morning and it's presenters.

HoneyPotts · 06/09/2023 09:36

I refuse to turn my TV on till 6pm

spuddel · 06/09/2023 09:47

YANBU. Awful presenters appealing to the lowest common denominator. Alison is shrill and way too much in doses of more than two minutes and Holly is as fake as that American cheese in a can. Don't watch it now.
