Black jeans for group interview for a shop assistant?

14 replies

Newcatontheblockk · 04/09/2023 21:41

I have a group interview next week with a trendy fashionable clothing shop (well know global brand)

Would black ( very black) skinny jeans and printed smart blouse be ok?
Shoes will be probably black flats or black heels.
Also I’m not the youngest if that would have make any difference.

Aibu = definitely not black skinny jeans!
AInbu= yes go for it!

Black skinny jeans aren't very fashionable so I wouldn't wear them if you're interviewing for a very fashionable clothing shop.

bananaboats · 04/09/2023 21:48

Skinny jeans & a blouse do not sound very fashionable so I would rethink on that basis!

Newcatontheblockk · 04/09/2023 21:49

@Blackblueandgold well they are my favourite, I always wear skinny jeans so other styles don’t suit me.
I am well aware of mum jeans or any other styles etc, but nope I would look ridiculous in them.

Is this Hollister by any chance? Sounds like the one DD did the other day. It took 15 minutes and DD was convinced the eldest woman (who was 24) would have walked away with the job.

Inkypot · 04/09/2023 21:52

Do you have any dresses at all? I'd do a summery dress with tights and flat shoes, maybe add a light jacket.
Keep it simple and be confident.
Good luck 🤞

I thought it sounded more like H&M

Since when are skinny jeans not fashionable? Everyone wears them from my student teen & their friends, to people my age. They are so flattering.

Spacehopperno1 · 04/09/2023 21:55

Personally I think skinny jeans sound fine. They are still sold in most high street fashion shops

Newcatontheblockk · 04/09/2023 21:59

@Comefromaway thanks God for them, I can’t imagine wearing any other jeans.

I'd wear clothes in line with what they sell/their staff wear.

Which shop is it? We aren't going to identify you.

This. I’d wear something that looks like they’d sell it at their store. Unless that would be wildly inappropriate like an evening gown.

purplecorkheart · 04/09/2023 22:08

The store don't care about your personal style. They want people who promote what they sell. Go on site and match your outfit to styles they are currently selling as much as possible. Also browse around a site and have an idea if they ask you as part of the interview to pick outfits for different clients. A poster here had a interview last week that they felt unprepared for but they kindly give an idea what they were asked.

As far as I know they were asked about current fashion trends, colours etc and asked to put together an outfit for a working Mom.

Newcatontheblockk · 04/09/2023 22:31

@purplecorkheart
That's where I read various advice starting from strictly not wearing any jeans as too unprofessional to -to wear stylish hip clothes to promote their style.
I don't want to wear plain suit trousers as too bland and boring, but also I'm aware not to overdo it .
Could you please link the thread here from the other poster about the interview they had last week?
