Gyms without showers

A bit grim IMO. I'm looking to join a gym and have been to see a few, mainly ladies only ones, and they don't have showers or even air conditioning.

Am I the only one who thinks not having showers in gyms is a bit icky?

Bit odd but if you plan to head back home after the gym anyways it wouldn't bother me. I'd just use deodorant spray and then have a shower once home.

Where I am lady only gyms are hard enough to find as is, so I wouldn't be very picky

If you go straight back to work or somewhere else after the gym then definitely no

talkito · 04/09/2023 14:50

The lack of air conditioning would be a bigger problem for me i think

Ykn · 04/09/2023 17:05

Especially in hot weather!

Does the price reflect the lack of showers? Do you want to save and shower at home or pay more?

megletthesecond · 04/09/2023 17:12

I've never showered at the gym as I'm always heading home afterwards.

No air con would be awful, even in winter. Unless they have loads of windows to open in which case it might be ok unless it was a heatwave.

Oysterbabe · 04/09/2023 17:13

Is it one of those ones where you go round in a circle? Curves or something? They are shit.

Ykn · 04/09/2023 17:14

A couple of them are, and the other isn't.

There are other gyms at the same price with showers.

No showers is doable, as there are plenty of gyms where I've not fancied it for various reasons (or they never had them in the first place) - but no aircon?

Unless it's a boxing gym or suchlike, no chance. It's bad enough when the aircon isn't on enough to get rid of the miasma around a bloke on the elliptical three rows in front of me - no aircon at all is an absolute no thank you, especially at the cost of some memberships.

The only air con in some of the places I've seen is opening all the windows and doors. One of the gyms had an air filter unit.

I used to train at a proper muscle gym with no showers. It was three mins from my house so never bothered me.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/09/2023 18:29

I don't think I've ever showered at the gym!

Lots of sport facilities don't have showers.

fortheloveofflowers · 04/09/2023 18:41

I wouldn’t shower at a gym now due to men masquerading as women with their dicks out.

I would want air con though.

pepino · 04/09/2023 18:48

I have never showered at the gym. I always go straight home afterwards and shower there. Air con is a must though!

Depends on the way you'd use the gym. My gym doesn't have showers, but I don't need it. I go in the morning after I've dropped DD at preschool, I walk jog home after as part of the workout so I'm sweaty when I get in. Quick shower at home then start my WFH job. Its a good cheap gym and its a mile from my house, and they're the main criteria for me.

I'd be looking to do the usual cardio and weights, with classes such as Kettlebells and HIIT, both of which are sweaty (and which the likes of Curves typically don't do).

Snap Fitness is looking like a winner, unisex showers but that doesn't bother me.

Wow! I've never heard of a gym without showers 😳

UsingChangeofName · 04/09/2023 22:53

I've never showered at the gym either.
The walk home is part of the cool down, then a pleasant shower in my own hose is much more preferable.

I wouldn't want a gym without air con though.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 05/09/2023 09:17

I never shower at the gym. Can't stand the thought of all the athletes foot. I just go home and shower after

KimberleyClark · 05/09/2023 17:08

I rarely shower at the gym except if I’ve been swimming. If I’m gymming I go gym ready and it’s a bit of a faff having to remember to take clothes to change into if I shower. Don’t bother blow drying my hair after washing it (after swimming)either. Just put a towel turban on and go home and do it there.

DogDaysAreOverr · 05/09/2023 17:20

I love showering at the gym! It's the longest I spend as I have no rushing about/ not needed by the family

Only time I don't bother is if I've done a class as I take as little as possible and go straight home.

Otherwise I workout, swim for a bit, use the steam room, faff about and do all my hair and skincare (I take pjs - plain black ones not tartan button downs!) sometimes as I can be the last one of a few out as late as possible.

Check their policies. When they say women only, that they mean females.

*house
I don't go out in the garden and hose myself down, honest Grin
