Just back from 2 weeks away

Food poisoning x 2
Concussion x 1
Attempted abduction of teenager x 1
Mosquito bites x around 22

I could do with another holiday to get over it!

Please share your funny/awful holiday tales for solidarity and so I can continue to see the funny side of the 2 weeks we've just endured 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Road trip holiday with family in the 90s travelling in two cars. Ended up getting separated from each other in the busy traffic of a large city we had never been to before.

Of course we didn’t have things like mobile phones or Sat Nav back then so we Didn’t manage to find each other again for two whole days!

After being reunited, between us we also experienced; food poisoning, an allergic reaction, a broken toe, heat exhaustion…

We still talk about that holiday. Have actually been back to the same places several times years later and loved it, but that first trip is one we will never forget!

The holiday where DD spent most of it in a hospital with Cellulitis;she was really poorly and we got her to the hospital when she was on the verge of becoming septic;honestly it was terrifying.

Another time we were ripped off by a woman trying to rent out her boyfriends or in this case recent exes caravan and taking our money and leaving us stranded with no accommodation;she's in prison for later setting the caravan on fire with him in it.

We popped a break hose trying to avoid an idiot who slammed on their breaks in front of us and we ended stranded on a holiday park over the Easter weekend until we could get the car fixed on the Tuesday (a lovely extra cost)

And finally we spent DH's 40th birthday stuck in a chilly wet car park for 8 hours following a weekend away as the car decided it wasn't letting us in.At great expense came a car lock smith,an extra night in a hotel,an extra night for the dogs in the kennels and sorting additional emergency childcare for the kids.

I think tbh reading this back we should probably just stay home.

I’m sitting reading the last few comments and I’ve just remembered travelling to London with my mum when I was about 22. Again, not exactly a holiday from hell but I’ve had a laugh to myself remembering it. She wanted to go to a concert and I volunteered to go with her. I paid for the flights and she was to get the hotel. My mum is notoriously tight with her money and the hotel was absolutely reflective of this- the toilet was in a bizarre sort of tube/cupboard that had a door like an aeroplane toilet. And the shower was in a see through pod in the middle of the bedroom.

The trip was a nightmare- my mum was a nervous wreck the whole time and very overwhelmed by how busy London is.

While there, we got a phone call from my aunt to tell us my dad had taken very unwell and we needed to come home ASAP. Pretty much 5 minutes later I got an email to my phone telling me out flight was very delayed because of the volcanic ash. We were sitting in a park with me googling our options for getting home incase our flights got cancelled and my mum got attacked by a swan. Traumatic for her but I’m crying with laughter here remembering it.

Got to the airport and we were told our flights were still delayed but likely to be cancelled. My mum went outside for fresh air while I spoke to the check in staff. She appeared 10 minutes later telling me that she had met a man called “Pablo” who was offering to drive us back to Glasgow. Pablo looked like Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker and the only thing he said to me was “beautiful girls”. Repeatedly. It felt like something from a bad sketch show. I chased Pablo away obviously and told my mum that, going forward, she wasn’t allowed to as much as go for a pee unattended.

We eventually got home after a very very long night at the airport, only for me to spend the whole next day with my dad waiting for a bed at a&e.

That sounds pretty unbeatable OP, I’m sorry!

Honeymoon - Bali Belly - never been so ill in my life, shitting on the toilet whilst puking into a bin in front of new husband, had to go to Balinese hospital, honeymoon involved 4 different towns so lots of long car rides having to hold it together 😄 horrendous and stomach hasn’t been the same since

Family holiday where FIL asked DH to choose between me and him and then stormed off to do a zip line with the golden child 😂 pretty stupid question as obvs DH chose me and the kids. But quite memorable and negative.

My two kids, they were 4 and 12 at the time. Their dad was a covid refuser and came down with Covid.

I suspected he was coming down with Covid because of his symptoms but he kept denying it. I went to lidls to “help him out”. I bought 4 days worth of ready meals and some snacks, cereal, milk, tea etc. he laughed and took it.

my son ended up cooking for him and his sister and taking care of the meals. Luckily they were microwaveable so all he needed to do was ping and serve!

Went to Tenerife with another couple when we were in our late teens. Really good friends who we’d go out with a lot. Anyway, we shared an apartment and the room safe was in our room, the make of the other couple would just walk in to get his money out of the safe without knocking (this was in the late 80s so currency was more usual than cards).
We’d talked for months about staying out all night in the bars but when it came to it the other couple wanted to be back by 10pm. They argued a lot and she seemed to be in a permanent sulk, in fact she barely spoke to us after the third day into a fourteen day holiday.
When we got back we started getting silent phone calls at my parents house, I was still living at home then. The sulker lived around the corner from me and she used to work late and get dropped off on the corner by us at Midnight. The phone calls always started at five past Midnight. There wasn’t 1471 or caller ID then but I knew that she’d done the same to another friend she’d fallen out with.

Lanzarote a couple of years later. We’d been delayed for hours so got to the apartment at 10pm. We unpacked the money, traveler’s cheques and passports into the safe and being really tired decided to leave the rest of the unpacking until morning so locked the door and went to bed. We’d noticed when entering the apartment that the lock felt a bit flimsy but it locked and we were within a complex so thought we were safe enough.
My boyfriend (now husband) got up first and couldn’t find his medication, or his carry on bag for that matter. I couldn’t find mine either, yet we knew we’d left them between the two beds in the room, next to the one we were sleeping in. Looked in the living area and noticed the curtain across the patio door was pulled open yet we’d closed that the night before.
Someone had obviously been inside in the night and taken the bags from the bedroom floor next to where we were sleeping. It turned out that several of the nearby apartments had been entered too and all were locked back up afterwards.
