Help, spicy poos

I’ve really put off posting this because I was scared I’d be accused of being a troll (I promise I’m not, I’m a long term poster but I’ve NC for obvious reasons)

I’ve had a problem for a while where when I’m passing stools it feels really spicy, as if it’s battery acid. It’s painful, stingy and it honestly feels like I’m being burned. I don’t eat spicy foods or chillis or peppers etc so I don’t know why this is happening but I’m in agony with it.

its not fissures or haemorrhoids, I’ve been checked out already for that multiple times and had a colonoscopy and there’s nothing physically wrong. It’s the stool itself that is burning me and causing the pain. It comes and goes in flare ups- for example I was absolutely fine yesterday and went to the toilet and it was excruciating, it honestly felt as if I was passing battery acid that was burning me. Everytime I go to the toilet now it’s the same. It will flare up and down like this for a few days at a time but in the meantime I’m in absolute agony with it.

im waiting for a gastro appointment about it but I just wondered does anyone know wtf this could be? I’m not asking for personal stories but does anyone have any advice or tips that would help at all in the meantime? Is there something I could eat or drink that would stop this? Thanks so much 😥 I can put up with the other IBS things but this is horrific and it’s genuinely ruining my life with how painful it is x

For me it was the toilet tissue making my booty sore, then I switched to wet wipes and it's been heavenly

Sorry I should have said I thought it was the toilet paper too at first but I’ve tried all sorts of different types and wet wipes and water etc and it doesn’t seem to make a difference, I’ll just randomly get a flare up of it :( I’ve also tried different fabrics for clothes and underwear in case I was having a reaction to that but it’s not it’s definitely the stool itself. I don’t want to include too much detail as it’s disgusting and I don’t want people to say I’m a troll but whenever I get the flare ups the texture of the stool changes too and becomes horribly tarry and sticky. I’ve had a bought of melaena in the past and whenever I get the spicy/acidic stools it’s the same tarry texture as when I had melaena but the difference is it’s not black and doesn’t have blood in it x

So sorry to hear this, OP. Nothing to be embarrassed about - everybody poos! I also have IBS and get something similar when I eat things my tummy doesn’t agree with. You could try an elimination diet and makes notes of what you eat and how your movements are to figure out what food could be causing it, if any. Best of luck to you.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 02/09/2023 22:52

Could it be bile acid or stomach acid in your stools? Look up bile acid malabsorption

mynameiscalypso · 02/09/2023 22:52

I'd guess something to do with acid too. Do you have things like reflux too?

With that new context I'm not sure what the issue could be, all the best and positivity

NavySalt · 02/09/2023 22:55

As you are waiting for a gastro appointment start a diary of your diet and mark every day you have to deal with this problem. It will give your doctor more information.
Hope they find a reason!

NavySalt · 02/09/2023 22:55

Also are you on any medication?

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 02/09/2023 22:57

your anus has taken against you, now you must pray to uranus and neptune🥳🤗🤬

Middleagedmom · 02/09/2023 23:04

I had a fissure that was missed multiple times on colonoscopies etc. I had to get a second opinion as the pain was unreal. They prescribed Diltiazem and it went away in a few weeks, unfortunately a fistula had formed because it was untreated for so long that I needed surgery. Does the poo sting your skin? If not, it’s not an issue with the poo but the anus.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 03/09/2023 00:49

Tomato and oranges can definitely cause the acidy burn.

maddening · 03/09/2023 01:03

Is there anyway you could collect the spicy poo sample and find somewhere even private, that might test it?

tolerable · 03/09/2023 01:26

worms? i am NOT a poo-oligist or particularly anal-lytical. Worms is defo some sort of 3rd party involvement that can involve in burnysting event.Fairly simple to treat(over counter 1..maybe 2..tablets) -at worst, you eliminate that option

SammyTam · 03/09/2023 03:40

Where exactly does it burn? In the bowel/colon inside, or the anus?
I'm wondering if it's a food intolerance/celiac? Could you apply a gel or even KY jelly before you go to soothe?

2B2G · 03/09/2023 03:46

I've had both types of IBS. I used to have constipation for years which I thought was bad till it switched to diarrhea IBS about 3 or 4 years ago and honestly my whole life is ruined I can barely do anything coz I can can hardly leave the house. I constantly have to have about 10 packs of imodium in the house. Stomach problems are horrid. I actually envy someone I know with a colostomy bag, their life is a million times better now, they actually have a life.

Wallywobbles · 03/09/2023 03:51

I'm not sure where your burn is but I currently have hemorrhoids and it burns so before I shit I rub something like Vaseline over my anus to limit the burn. I have IBSd so I really understand burnt bum hole.
