To have thinning hair and periods so light, they only really last a day ? Never had kids.
It's my friend. She is this age and feels that all the above issues are because of her maturing age, aibu to feel it's a bit soon? She has no other medical issues either.

She's not too young to be in peri-menopause. Peri can last for 10 years or more before full menopause. If she suspects hormonal imbalances, I would strongly suggest she not bother wasting her time with a GP and go straight to a private peri/menopause clinic if she can.

Did she ever have thick hair or periods that weren't light, how long ago was that?

Nameuserchangeagain · 02/09/2023 18:32

If it's not normal for her she needs to see a doctor.

WanOvaryKenobi · 02/09/2023 18:34

This could be a lot of things. Perimenopause, thyroid, PCOS, etc. Warrants investigation

HoppingDragon · 02/09/2023 18:34

She said she's noticed the change in the last 2 years.
Always had normal periods and normal hair up until then.

Always had normal periods and normal hair up until then.

She needs to address this now so it doesn't get beyond the point of turning it around. It's a shame she's waited this long.

HoppingDragon · 02/09/2023 18:52

She doesn't see the issue so I guess I shouldn't worry. She is putting it down to age and saying it's because she's just not young anymore.

I am 42 and not having any of those issues. Neither any of my friends around my age. It's not as simple as it's an age thing. As PPs said it should be checked. Sounds like peri.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/09/2023 18:55

I would encourage her to have her thyroid checked, at a minimum.

mandymion · 02/09/2023 18:57

There are things you can do to help your hair. I use the Ordinary Multi Peptide Hair density serum and it's having good results so far. I also brush my hair upside down using a scalp massaging style brush to get blood flow to it once a day as it really helps. Also use caffeine shampoo once in a while and take hair supplement and multi vitamins, all helps.

Dascha · 02/09/2023 19:09

I think you're right, it warrants investigation.

lookingforMolly · 02/09/2023 19:10

I'm 47 and still not having those issues.. I suggest she sees the gp as yes, could be peri but could be something more serious.
She needs a full set of bloods and an mot.
Hopefully she just needs some hrt and some iron tablets.

Hibiscrubbed · 02/09/2023 19:35

It’s not impossible but would unusual to experience menopause so she should see the doctor swiftly to rule out more sinister causes.

Iknowthis1 · 02/09/2023 19:37

It's not her age. She should have bloods done. It could be as simple as low iron.
