Police shoot pregnant woman dead (USA)

SuddenlyOld · 02/09/2023 07:35

Ok America, since when did it become normal for police officers to point guns at pregnant women accused of shoplifting?
She didn't have a weapon or get violent. Turns out she hadn't stolen anything either.
If I was black in America I'd be scared to go out 😪😪😪
This is probably the worst thing I've seen ever.

@grmsk exactly what bad choice did she make? Being accused of a crime whilst black? Having fucking word with yourself.

RoseBucket · 02/09/2023 10:44

*controlled stop

Jump to the side and shoot the tyre. What you don’t do is shoot a pregnant woman who you don’t actually know has done anything wrong.

Exactly.

Prescottdanni123 · 02/09/2023 10:46

So it was clear that she was scared they would shoot her. That it when the police should have tried to de-escalate, as there is a risk that someone who is scared they are going to shot is going to run away.

@missmollygreen

Get out the way? Deal with the situation calmly from the start and not pull my gun out in the first place?

Also this. Why was the weapon drawn in the first place? She was only accused of shoplifting.

She made the bad choice to drive into a police officer standing in front of her car to flee the scene while being investigated for a potential crime and having been told she was not free to leave.

How justified or unjustified the officers actions were doesn't change that she made a bad decision

You probably wouldnt make a good police officer if you just let everyone go who threatened you

Yes, murdering anyone who supposedly threatens you is much much better. Even big scary pregnant women.

cakeorwine · 02/09/2023 10:49

I wonder what the views in the USA are?

I can see why police draw guns. But when a weapon is drawn and you are escalating a situation, it's so easy to see how something can happen.

The video did not appear to see an officer scared for his life when the car comes towards him. It does not look to be going at high speed. He positioned himself in front of the car with his gun pointing towards her. Because she was suspected of shoplifting. That's a very aggressive poise to take. Maybe it's standard police practice but you can see how that could go tragically wrong.

I think this particular poster 🧌needs ignoring. Don’t feed their perverse need to be abhorrent.

So it‘s better to shoot and kill someone accused of shoplifting? So you can be a „good police officer“?

I wonder how this would play out in states that have tried to make foetuses people so mothers can be charged with murder for abortion ? Especially when their premise is the foetus is innocent ? Presumably that makes the officer a murderer ?

The law in the U.S. has a few logical inconsistencies on this point but the murder of an unborn child is a crime in Ohio.

Ohio Man Charged with Murders of Pregnant 23-Year-Old Girlfriend and Her Unborn Child

A 30-year-old Ohio man has been indicted by a grand jury for the stabbing murder of his pregnant 23-year-old partner Alicia Rosa and her unborn baby in her Bowling Green apartment.

saffronsoup · 02/09/2023 10:55

Race factors in in many ways. If this was a white Trump supporting man in the car refusing to comply with a black officer and then driving into him / her and lifting them off the ground while fleeing - it would also be a different thread.

Sound like the sins of the mother then ...

gillygeey · 02/09/2023 10:56

There was a case recently not far from me. Chris Kaba was shot through the windscreen for not stopping for police as I think the car he was driving was linked to firearm offences hence why armed police. So no the don't shot the tyres here either

So shoot 'em !!!!!!!!!!

( Point blank !Through a car window !)

Excellent policing I'm sure @missmollygreen

No idea why it's being reported.

egowise · 02/09/2023 10:58

Proudgypsy · 02/09/2023 08:12

Absolutely not. I'm actually against guns but that's irrelevant.

I'm saying that the media have done this time and time again but every time it works so of course they'll continue. Look at the case of George Floyd where it was presented that he was an innocent black man killed because he was black.

I am certain that there are lots of details missing, as usual.

I wondered how long it would take...

sunglassesonthetable · 02/09/2023 10:59

She chose not to engage and to flee instead. It's quite obvious.
I am astonished how many people are explaining away what she was thinking and why she acted the way she did.

crack on @grmsk

" Explain away " shooting a "possible" shoplifter point blank through a car window.

Dear god. What if they were faced, you know, with an actual threat?

endofthelinefinally · 02/09/2023 11:01

You couldn't pay me to set foot in America now.
I worked there for a year back in the 80s. I left because of the racism and guns. Even though I was earning double my uk salary.
Barbaric.

Brefugee · 02/09/2023 11:03

So, the answer is that the police arrest/stop no one? Welcome to a place where anarchy reigns

you're not black are you? (if you are you should know better than to say that)

There isn't a binary between stopping nobody and anarchy. Do you live in the UK? is it anarchy there? do the police routinely shoot people?

HotWaxToTheMax · 02/09/2023 11:04

Just fucking wow.
I don't believe stealing or not having plates on your car warranted guns drawn .
With the reputation for aggressive arrest and the fact they were showing aggression I would probably not have got out of the car either.
Instinct to protect your child in that moment would have been overwhelming I'd imagine.
I hate guns 😔

Absolutely unbelievable response. Hope to god this is not a real person.

cakeorwine · 02/09/2023 11:05

Just watched the second video.

They went in aggressively right away. "Get out of the car". Repeatedly. That is poor communication. No attempt at communication, deescalation.

Then going in front of the car with a gun drawn.

Why do that? Why go in front of a car with your gun out?

gillygeey · 02/09/2023 11:07

@Brefugee do you really think if guns were legal here police shootings wouldn't massively increase?
