ASOS foot models

I was buying shoes from ASOS earlier.

I was surprised to see what looked like bunions, piggy toes, scrappy raggedy toe nails, unpainted toes...I could go on. I wouldn't expect to see this from a company trying to sell shoes.

AIBU to expect some effort to glamourise the feet?

Yes, you’re right. They should all be like this.

What's wrong with the models feet? They look absolutely fine to me (it's fair to say mine are fairly reptilian looking though so I may have low standards)....

Borough · 31/08/2023 23:01

That's nothing. Look what I found on tk max:

I'm not seeing what's wrong with your examples OP? 🤷‍♀️

CatchHimDerry · 31/08/2023 23:06

Maybe they just want to show realistic / real life feet?

A bit like many complain about all thin, perfect figure type models etc. as opposed to all shapes and sizes.

this is the foot version 😂

The white shoe foot has a bunion.

Other examples on the website have got feet in much need of a pedicure. Was surprised to see hang nails earlier.

Didn't stop me buying the shoes mind you!

I have bunions, I didn't think they were offensive to the public.
They are normal feet advertising shoes, you need to get a grip op.
I've heard it all now

PickAChew · 31/08/2023 23:18

Buy these shoes and you, too will end up with bunions.

They just look bloody uncomfortable. You could start the day with "perfect" feet and end up with them looking quite battered after about half a day of slopping around with your toes compressed.

PerilTheBeryl · 31/08/2023 23:20

Why would you inspect the feet instead of looking at the shoes Confused really not seeing an issue with the feet in your example.

Yes. The Foot Positivity movement.

I've not said bunions are offensive. Lots of us get them. I just wouldn't expect to see them on feet advertising shoes. Nor hang nails or raggedly cut toe nails.

Like I wouldn't expect to see zits on jewellery models.

Why not?

Exactly... lots of us get these things.
It's great that "normal" people and things are being shown in advertising.

We are finally coming away from unrealistic (for a lot of people) beauty standards and perfection being shoved down our throats.
Seeing your average person modelling an average item of clothing/footwear/jewellery should be the norm, you shouldn't be shocked by it.

Findingmypurposeinlife · 31/08/2023 23:50

PLT are currently using a model wearing a colostomy bag to advertise swimwear. I personally thought it was a good thing.

Hibiscrubbed · 31/08/2023 23:51

So you think we need to perpetuate the image of perfection or nothing? If it’s not perfect, it shouldn’t be seen? Where do you draw the line?

No wonder people’s mental health and view of ‘acceptable aesthetics’ are fucked.

SpringIntoChaos · 01/09/2023 01:52

Literally had to zoom right in and squint to even remotely notice a tiny red mark/bump on the side..wouldn't even have noticed this without your utterly ridiculous/pointless attention seeking comment.

As someone else has already said...sod off already!! FML 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

(I'm going to have to assume either a foot fetish or an ASOS clickbait employee here...pathetic!)

UntidyFairy · 01/09/2023 06:53

I'd swap feet with any of them anyday, so I'm not seeing it either.

continentallentil · 01/09/2023 07:59

They leave their plus size models with cellulite and stretch marks and stuff, so it’s the same thing - it’s just their thing to have more realistic bodies I guess.

Yes, this. Why advertise shoes using feet that have a health issue that is known to be partially caused by bad shoes?

The toenails in the example are perfectly pedicured. There is a shadow under a big toe but not dirt 🤔

LubaLuca · 01/09/2023 09:17

It's not a bad idea to demonstrate that shoes are suitable for feet with regular lumps and bumps.

babbscrabbs · 01/09/2023 10:06

If those are grim feet, wait till you see mine!

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 01/09/2023 10:46

What's wrong with unpainted toenails?

BranchGold · 01/09/2023 11:52

You clearly have issues.

Airbrushed is not normal or aspirational.
