To hate the word hobby?

I swear no one in real life talks about ‘hobbies’ yet they’re talked about in every second post on mumsnet. Does no one just do ‘stuff’ anymore? Why is everything a hobby!

I can't stand the word. Sounds so childish.

I think it's just a way to quickly convey that it's something done regularly and that time and effort is put into it.

E.g gardening - 'DH did the garden' vs 'DH's hobby is gardening' suggest different things.
