Hi All,

I am a 33 year old woman and suffering from health anxiety.

1mont ago I found a lump on my jaw bone. It’s small.
sometimes I can move it sometimes I can not.

I also have 2 lymph node each side of my neck since I am small.

does it normal to feel them in our neck?

I am very nervous about the jaw one as it is on such an ususual place .

does any of you can feel their lymph nodes and does anyone has one on their jaw bone on the side?

I will have an ultrasound in a week time but so nervous .

many thanks

We all have lymph nodes at the end of our jaws (where the jaw meets the neck). They normally shouldn't change size unless inflamed (lymph nodes are the first line of defense in the body, so for example if you had a cold it would make sense for them to be bigger/more tender as your body is trying to fight off the infection). So if you could always feel them and they haven't gotten bigger that shouldn't be a concern. When it comes to the lump on your jaw, that is a bit more unusual, but it could be many things, from a cyst, a dental abscess, an issue with the bone to obviously more serious stuff. Only way to know is to have it checked by a doctor. I know it's easier said then done, but try not to worry/think the worst (I suffer from anxiety myself) as it's far more likely to be something innocent than not and even if it's not you are getting it checked out quickly and modern medicine is doing wonders so try and do things that take your mind of it.

For full clearance, I'm a vet not a dr.

Lymph nodes should be about the size of a pea and moveable.
sometimes they may feel bigger / painful if you’re run down as a response to infection.

try not to worry about these things you’ll end up driving yourself mad. Poking them will only make them hurt swell up (I am only talking from my own experience with health anxiety from a fear of lymphoma)

I am sure all will be ok 😊🤍

I get glands swelling up under my jaw sometimes, it can be a skin flare up or a bit of a tooth/gum /throat problem (infection) they go down in a few days. My dentist has said she could refer me but it would probably be fine when I go to get checked so I haven't bothered.

I hope so. Thank you.

I had a lump in what sounds the same place as you have described and also had an ultrasound. Turned out to be a fluid-filled cyst. Panic over. I hope the same for you

I had glandular fever about 40 years ago …I have lymph nodes that are palpable in my jaw and neck.
