Car Insurance

AIBU to think car insurance is not making sense. It seems fraudulent that a small ding (my fault) has resulted in a claim for £3700 (more than the cost of the other car) and my insurance going up by £1000 even with 20 years no claims protection. The cost of the claim was mainly the hire car. I kind of wish I hadn't been honest and left a note saying I'd done it, it has certainly made think I might not if it ever happened again.

Are the insurance comparison sites the best places to try to get a better deal going forward and is it worth considering a monitoring box/app or is that an excuse to rip you off too? What is the point in the no claims protection thing if it doesn't stop your insurance going up?

Majority of car insurers make no money.

Aye, they are fucking benevolent charities, the poor lambs

If you feel that way @jellytable it's worth complaining and escalating to the ombudsman. The standard is reasonable charges so you should expect the insurer to pay about what the average person on the street would. Unless they're doing credit hire on a Ferrari I would struggle to understand how they could justify thousands for a two day repair, although it could well have been a much longer repair if a key part had a long lead time.

My car insurance has gone up 50%. No changes apart from we’re all a year older. Actually thought it may go down as dc is now over 21.

I can recommend LV (Liverpool Victoria) insurance
I have had 4 claims in last 10 years 3 not my fault on one occasion car was hit whilst parked - other 2 not my fault whilst stationary
The other one was my fault as I scraped another car whilst reversing out of a tight space (although they were not legally parked as blocking me in on cross hatching)
My premiums have not gone up and I’ve kept my full no claims discount (protected)
I did expect to pay £100 excess on the fault one and was surprised when they told me it wasn’t necessary

Our son had his renewal quote a few weeks ago.
It had increased from £842 last year to £1520 this year. Five years no claims, no points on his license, same car, same address. The only change is that he’s now a year older at 23.
He did a comparison and paid £910.
He called about getting proof of his no claims for his new insurer and was offered a price match.

Mine has gone up the year. Not happy.

That's my insurance company. They've cancelled my insurance before without checking I knew. Long story, I wish I had t gone with them again. Awful.
