It is her fault?

Mothers, please teach your sons not to kiss women without asking. Do not find yourself in the position of having to defend your adult son's sexist behaviour by going on hunger strike.

I feel for her, but actually, it might be her fault, thinking about it. AIBU?

Luis Rubiales: Mother of Spanish FA boss locks herself in church and goes on hunger strike

The mother of Spanish football federation chief Luis Rubiales has locked herself inside a church and announced a hunger strike in protest at the "inhumane treatment" her son is receiving following his unsolicited kiss on Jenni Hermoso.

I don't actually think it's the mother's fault, by the way. She can't be held accountable for his actions, and neither can his father, wherever he is (not in this news story and I wonder why)

But, her defence of his actions made me think that someone with a mother who would do this may perhaps be more entitled and think more of himself than your average person.

Yes , Op.

You are completely right.

Let's blame women for men's actions.

This is an odd response - I'm asking a question, not making a statement.

No, it's not her fault. It is the man who committed the act who is responsible for his own actions.
Men need to be accountable for their own actions.

Ibetthatyoulookgoodon · 29/08/2023 13:52

Well, I wouldn't say it's her fault as he is an adult and responsible for his own behaviour. However, am I surprised that the son of a woman who says things like "he is incapable of harming anyone" might not be able to make a good appraisal of his own behaviour and admit wrongdoing? No, I'm not.

midgemadgemodge · 29/08/2023 13:56

It's not her fault because we never blame parents for the actions of their adult children

Parents not just mother

there may be a case to re-examine how we raise boys and how that might influence how they behave towards women when they are adults

How can she actually lock herself inside a church though? Surely the priest has a key.

I think she (and her sister) actually hid in there until the priest left, so actually he locked her in and now he is on holiday and not returning until tomorrow (or something like that).

NotMadeOfStone · 29/08/2023 14:09

Ooh how will she make it through 48 hours of hunger strike 🤣

SequinsandStiIettos · 29/08/2023 14:10

Hunger strike cos those nasty faux feminists are picking on her 46 year old little boy?

I posted that in the football thread yesterday.
Whether she genuinely believes that it is an “unwarranted, inhumane and bloodthirsty” hunt of her son, or not, I think going on a hunger strike is absurd.
Her son could have resigned but will be dragged out the federation, kicking and screaming. Same as Vilda. They don't want to lose their power and their money.
I have more respect for the three women who weren't selected for the World Cup as they refused to apologise. I have more respect for the team coaches (not Vilda) who resigned when Rubiales wouldn't.

“Why are they taking it out on him?” she asked Efe. She pleaded for the public to understand her plight, arguing that this sort of situation could happen to anyone.
She described her son as “incapable of hurting anyone”, and backed his view of what had happened during the kiss. “There is no sexual abuse since there is consent on both sides, as the images prove.”

Bullshit. Do I think the kiss was spontaneous, euphoric and non-sexual? Yes.
Do I think it was consensual? Of course not.
The federation haven't been listening. The women's success is due to their skill not the machismo bullying of the men who think their victory validates their shitty behaviour.

That Rubiales's mother is pulling this stunt for sympathy is crass. She is not at fault for his choices but it is not unlikely that his sense of entitlement has been given to him from both a patriarchal machismo society and a mother who thinks the sun shines out of his backside/he can do no wrong. Spoiled by parents since he was a little boy + societal structure + tradition + power + money = entitled older man.

Well it's your thread mate! If you'd rather talk about shoes head over to S&B.

On the other hand...this guy is 46. He's had three decades of being an adult to understand what's right and wrong in the workplace. He chose to do wrong, when he had all the evidence of how to treat people decently.

It's his fault. Just his.

This

and everything @SequinsandStiIettos has said.

Oh honesty fuck off. It's not a woman's fault if her grown adult son chooses to assault women and break the law.

Jesus Christ.

Is nothing ever a man's fault?

ManateeFair · 29/08/2023 14:36

It's not her fault that he behaved the way he did.

However, it IS her fault that she's now victim-blaming and making out that her dreadful son is somehow the one who has been wronged.
