Just curious as it is due to start at midnight tonight and could potentially cause a lot of chaos. I don't support it.

YANBU - I DON'T support ULEZ expansion

YABU - I DO support ULEZ expansion

@whathaveiforgottentoday You live a 10 min walk from the M25?

Bloody hell, I would have thought you’d support anti-pollution measures I dread to think of the air quality near your house.

I didn’t even know you could live a 10min walk from it.
Is that safe?

Loads of houses quite close to M25. It's about 2 mins in the car so about 10 mins I guess walking. Never actually walked it! Air quality is quite good where I live as surrounding by trees. Probably more affected by wood burners that the neighbours have.
Did you think there's a large exclusion zone around the M25 !!

My house existed long before the M25.

Croissantsandpistachio · 28/08/2023 22:46

Think it's brill too. We live just outside the existing zone; did buy a car for the first time recently and was very easy to find one with very low emissions. I'd rather my kids, and all the other kids, don't breathe disgusting air thanks.

@Clymene have you seen the price of trades in London? Cost of ULEZ compliance would make no difference at all. Loads of trades on my street and they're all compliant anyway. It's not like it's a bloody surprise it's happening is it? We've known about it for years.

Carsarelife · 28/08/2023 22:48

@WarOnTheSlugs the point is by paying £12.50 you can still emit pollution

WarOnTheSlugs · 28/08/2023 22:48

Haretest · 28/08/2023 22:22

Why are people saying the effect is negligible when the research says differently? Eg

Bonjovispjs · 28/08/2023 22:52

100% support it.

WanderleyWagon · 28/08/2023 22:54

I support the ULEZ. I walk and travel by bicycle in the city where I live and I am very keen for the air quality to get better. I recognise that these policies are challenging on a number of fronts but ULEZ is part of a package of policies that are driving observable, quantifiable improvements in air quality.

Exactly.

And in just a few years, barely any cars would be on the road which don't comply with ULEZ anyway.

Yet they've invested alllll this money in the infrastructure, for a problem that would fix itself shortly, anyway? And scientists seem to be saying has minimal impact even now. Why?

This infrastructure will be used for other charges. Either eventually all ICE cars, or probably to charge cars per mile because as people are forcibly moved to electric cars they will lose fuel duty, which currently work out around 10p per mile.

Yes I did think there was an exclusion zone.

I live about 3 miles away from M25 (and even we are concerned re heightened pollution) there aren’t any houses within a 10min walking stretch either side on our bit.

How is your air quality being measured? Does the council do it?

upanddown22 · 28/08/2023 23:00

Completely oppose it. The idea is so wrong because as long as you pay you can keep emitting pollution. All it does is target poorer people.

dutysuite · 28/08/2023 23:03

Those people saying they agree to it because they own a compliant car. 🤣 Couldn’t make this s**t up.

se22mother · 28/08/2023 23:07

No. Money making scheme.

The expansion was announced in November 2022. I make that under a year.

You can keep emitting pollution for free if you plan your journey carefully. Currently I can either pay £12.50 to take a 2 minute drive (max) out from the zone to the supermarket or a long and convoluted journey through back streets. As one particular camera has been sawn off, I could actually get right into the supermarket.

I'm waiting for my compliant car to arrive - the delivery date keeps getting pushed back. It's ridiculous as my current car is excellent and I had no plans to replace it for 3 years or so. Such a waste.

I'm lucky - I can afford the new car and any fees incurred before then. Many can't. The implementation of this is all wrong. Plus, it's clearly nothing to do with pollution and all about money.

SoupDragon · 28/08/2023 23:10

So, it doesn't affect you at all. It's very easy to think something is brilliant in those circumstances. 😂😂

EllBellWell · 28/08/2023 23:11

Sigmama · 28/08/2023 22:33

Ellebellwell, you do realise thousands of londoners don't own a car so sadiq is not getting money out of every one

Where did I state thousands do own cars

For the record, thousands must or there wouldn't be blade runners out every night clipping them down.

As I said, you don't see uproar from Khan or anyone in Government tbf about knife crime, robberies or the elite dirt in the BBC do you. No, because it doesn't generate revenue.

It's to line pockets of the wealthy. Society needs to come together but as usual a narrative is pushed to divide.

pawsandponies · 28/08/2023 23:14

I live on a rural country lane, my horses live at my house and we are surrounded by farmland. We live about 10 minutes from the ULEZ Cameras. We have spent tens of thousands buying new vehicles, as much as it may surprise people large 4x4s are a necessity for some people as they are to us and our business.
There in no public transport to speak of here apart from a train station roughly two miles away.
I think most previous posters do not understand quite how rural some parts of outer london can be. Look up Downe Viliage which is technically part of Bromley.

I agree that Downe is incredibly rural. It is madness that it is inside the ulez

Completely against it, as I can see it for what it is, which is Khan desperately needing to fill his TfL black hole after years of mismanagement have caught up with him. Those supporting are the usual gullible sorts and/or the "I'm alright Jack" types, or the physically weak that hard working society has to now pay double to fund.

And yet the congested roads near me in Croydon are outside it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I can understand not everyone can afford the chargers and associated costs,
for those that can and those that support being environmentally friendl y them here is your chance to prove it.

Following the strategy he published 6 years ago?
