So glad he has been rescued! He is absolutely gorgeous, have to say though he doesn’t look one little bit repentant😂

Just ignore all shitty responses on here, honestly if mn were representative of how people act in real life I’d move to mars! It’s easy to be self righteous and/or downright nasty from behind a screen.

Eh, the catflap was chip activated, the absent neighbours are not at fault here.

OP delighted that moggie is safe and well but please take this as a sign to take more care with him in the future. Please tell me you have removed the crab sticks too, I'm dry retching just thinking about it.

Yes, they are. They should have blocked the cat flap - the chip is not relevant - the old owners did one thing, they are the new owners and should have ensured their property was secure.

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/08/2023 15:03

For those who can't fathom how a catflap might need a bend or dogleg in it...

This is the set up for our family cat, the pipeline enters the house from the conservatory, under the landing but thats cupboards, so its doglegged to the end of the row of cupboards, just under the stairs as thats a better place for it. It is the inside flap that is lockable, not the outer flap.

I have friends with similar set ups where the external entry point is under window seat or where inside, you might want furniture against the wall, so the cats are piped to a more suitable exit point internally.

To break into my new neighbours house *THREAD 2*

I am so glad he is safe.
My cat unfort was weeing in the wrong spots (we have a rental) - and I have found this the best stuff to break down the crystals before the carpet/sofa gets cleaned. You need to do a patch test first but we have had not issues with it fading anything.

i want a photo of the cat personally

She posted one on the first thread

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 15:05

a one way cat flap that traps the critter inside the house (!) is simply idiotic.

But why? I'm sure most cat owners fit cat flaps for the benefit of their own cats, not all the random wild/roaming animals in the neighbourhood.

You let the cat out to go for a wee, wander, whatever and then it knows that, when it comes home for food or whatever reason, that's it for the night.

Their flap let a random animal in.

and then trapped it inside/didn’t let it leave.

that’s definitely the fault of whoever owner the cat flap (and house in general)

There’s a new photo of the released scoundrel at the bottom of page 21, to those asking.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 15:09

It's going to be an expensive repair unfortunately, possibly new floor boards and a replacement rug. Also factor in new paint work as well. However, I'm sure there's many a poster on here who will help towards the payment.

Nah, they'll just insist that cats must be allowed to go and do whatever they want, but that neither they nor their owners can be expected to bear any of the consequences of their freedoms.

Of course. And our cat flap was designed to not let other cats in.

which benefited us (no random cats inside!) and our own cat (who was free to come and go as she wanted).

SapphireSeptember · 28/08/2023 15:09

Yay! Glad he's free at last!

If it's a microchip reading catflap it shouldn't be letting other cats in, sounds faulty to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheSquareMile · 28/08/2023 15:09

He's beautiful and very naughty!

I would be inclined to go to a card shop this afternoon and buy a lovely blank greetings card to send to the people whose house he got into.

You can write a note of sincere apology for the damage he has done and explain how he came to get into the house.

You could then add that you would like to contribute to the cost of the clearing up of what he has done.

If you give your mobile number, they can then ring you at their convenience when they are at the house. I don't know what they will say - the best solution might be for you to pay for a cleaner to spend an hour in the house later in the week.

If you pop it through their door this afternoon, you will be on the way to putting this upsetting time behind you.

diddl · 28/08/2023 15:09

If this neighbour's cat flap is faulty then surely all the ones that he has managed to get through are?

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 15:10

Yes, that makes far more sense overall, I will freely concede!

Sundaybaby · 28/08/2023 15:11

Would someone (presumably having had success with them) please post a link to the fence rollers?

Mummyoflittledragon · 28/08/2023 15:11

Bless him, I’m so glad you have your moggie back safe and sound!

Agree. I’m glad OP has got her cat back safely, but given she knows the cat does this I really hope she is thinking of how to keep the cat contained on her own property from now on.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/08/2023 14:36

You can get roller things to go on top of a fence so they cannot jump on them.
Or build a Catio

Or just tell them "Not To " ( like that works <Pah!> )

Roller things don’t work. It’s a myth. Catio. Pah.

Exactly this! What a weird cat flap.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/08/2023 15:12

Yay! Fantastic news.

Please tell me you cleared up the crab sticks otherwise that room will definitely stink!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 28/08/2023 15:13

You could then add that you would like to contribute to the cost of the clearing up of what he has done.

That makes it sound like you're doing them a kindness, rather than just paying them what you rightfully owe them.

I wouldn't use the word 'contribute' unless you really want to sound like a massive CF.

DeanElderberry · 28/08/2023 15:15

Having a cat flap that lets animals into your house but not out again sounds like an invitation to disaster, particularly if you are going to leave your house empty. - I'm remembering a tale of an empty holicay cottage and a pine marten that I was told by people who cleaned for me and for the hoilday cottage - the pine marten got in via the roof not via a cat flap, but it did thousands of euros worth of damage before it died (cleaning crew were very sad about the poor animal).

I'm not convinced she owes them anything - they left their house set up as a cat trap, and it trapped a cat. I don't see that that is her fault.

LoonyLois · 28/08/2023 15:17

He’s absolutely gorgeous! So glad he’s free now.

Iamnotalemming · 28/08/2023 15:18

Woohoo congrats on his liberation by the builder. Hope you can relax on the rest of your bank holiday.

On the damage, see whether your neighbour's insurance will cover any of it, offering to pay the excess may be less expensive than replacing / specialist cleaning. Hopefully you have have a cuppa with them and a laugh about the situation.
