Thanks you so much, @FFSWhatToDoNow and @VeloVixen !

The rolling logs sound ingenious and not too unsightly, but the prison compound-type fence is as ugly as I imagined.

Golden!!! ✌️

Yaayyyyyyy! Little furry barstool, they're worth it though x

Feet up and a cuppa OP? x

Glad you’re going to get your cat back soon. I guess you’ll have to be prepared to bung some money to the owners in case your cats toileted on carpets/walls - hopefully if they have, they’ve done it in one contained area that can be cleaned up easily. Least of your worries I know - you’ll just be glad to get your cat home 😊Can’t wait to see the pics!

How disgusting. A professional clean is the least that should be offered until a full inspection of any potential damage can be made.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 28/08/2023 12:50

Oh that is such great news, OP!!!! I would have probably keeled over with the stress by now, I am so happy he's going to be rescued.

IlikePinaColada84 · 28/08/2023 12:50

Great news that the cat is going to be freed 🎉 Surely that is the most important thing, not bickering about who said what to who 🙄

Mumsanetta · 28/08/2023 12:53

@mydogisthebest
Oh look another cat hating moron.

Cat "harassing elderly neighbours". Where are all the idiots on this thread crawling out from? OP said her neighbours were elderly. OP also said “I have a cat who has a bit of a reputation on our street for forcing his way into neighbours homes by breaking open their cat-flaps to steal their pets food. He’s been doing it for years, not much I can do about it besides keeping him in which he would hate. Anyway….

Why the fuck should she cat proof her garden? See above. What if she can't afford to? Then she can’t afford a cat. What if she doesn't have a garden? Then she shouldn’t have a cat that doesn’t want to be an indoor cat. What if it is a tiny yard? Ditto. What if it is acres of garden and would cost a fortune? Then she can’t afford a cat.

Funny how all the cat lovers are perfectly fine with this cat breaking into neighbours’ housing and probably terrorising other cats in the process but can’t cope with the idea that this one cat she would be kept indoors or in the OP’s garden.

The builders (their number was on the renovation sign outside) have finally answered their phone after 48 hours of me calling and texting, an extremely kind Irish man who has found the whole thing hilarious. He said he will be come over to liberate my cat 😭😭😭😭

I’m soooooo bloody happy. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE KIND AND SYMPATHETIC REPLIES 💗💗💗 I’ve been reading them all and it’s really helped me feel less alone.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

Wonderful! I'm so so pleased!! Block off that fricking cat flap (assuming there's no other creature in the house) until the owners have moved in.

LittleBrownJug · 28/08/2023 12:53

Phew! And another request for the rescue photo, please.

My cat is a nosy & exploratory little devil. Disappeared for 11 days 5 years ago. I was heavily pregnant & out of my mind with worry & hormones , & went out looking for her around the neighbourhood at dawn and dusk everyday shaking treats and calling her name as I just knew she was stuck inside somewhere nearby — & most of the houses are holiday lets/second homes so god knows when someone would have come back etc. It was April so not peak season and it was after a pleasant spring weekend when everyone was outside in garden; mowing the lawn; sheds open etc. Before they fucked off back to their first homes etc.

Couldn’t find trace of her. Finally had to start to admit to myself she was probably dead as who could survive that long without food or water? I was distraught.

11 days later she appeared at our cat flap. Miraculous! She was very skinny; starving; & she smelled of a musty garage or shed.
I have no idea how she survived. she must have had water … or mice … She wouldn’t tell me where she was of course.

So pleased to read OP’s update . This thread is crackers with arguing Angelas though.

Enko · 28/08/2023 12:54

Happy someone responded to you OP and yes don't forget the crab sticks :)

Goatymum · 28/08/2023 12:56

I am so pleased he’s going to be liberated!! I’d be buying that builder a beer or two!!!

greedychopz · 28/08/2023 12:57

It's almost like breaking in, which was the original plan was a bit OTT Halo

So outer shell has been screwed into the wall, easily removed. 'Slight bend' became a 90 degree bend on this thread.

You're not doing the OP @Catsos any favours by posting this.

I think @Catsos is just pleased she has managed to free her cat. Unless you’re there and can see I doubt you can comment on ease of removal. This was just the opening with the flappy bit on the inside, around a bend and not reachable. Bloody Nora please get it

Crabcakeswin · 28/08/2023 12:57

So glad your cat is being rescued! Have been following with baited breath! My only suggestion would've been to try the fire brigade as they must rescue cats all the time. Perhaps you could tape some cardboard over the cat flap, just in case he tries to break in again before the owners move in. (Although I'm pretty sure he'll be more wary after this experience!)

JustMaggie · 28/08/2023 12:58

Wonderful news OP! I'm so happy to hear you will be reunited with your cat soon!

Edited

Cat and dog lovers live on another planet. Because they love their animals, they seem to think everyone else should.

Because cats shouldn't be restricted to indoors, the rest of us have to put up with the fact they may come into our houses and scratch our walls etc. Because dogs like to play, we should all just accept they might jump at is because they are friendly Hmm

I sincerely hope you'll be paying for carpet cleaning, the scratched wall to end repainted and will be removing the food waste you've posted through the window OP.

cloudsandream · 28/08/2023 12:59

@placemats are you okay? you’ve chewed up and spat out the OP on MULTIPLE occasions across the threads. I’m reading through them now and all I bloody see is you coming back to snipe some more. Are you always like this? Let’s celebrate a wonderful update and maybe find you a new hobby whilst we’re at it.

It's not the OPs cat flap. It's her neighbours cat flap. @Catsos has no right to block it off. Plus the cat does have a habit of getting into other peoples houses if you've read thread one. I wouldn't personally have a cat flap like this as I would worry about rats and squirrels getting in.

Cat, gorgeous, needs to stop doing this but how?

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/08/2023 13:05

Anyone would think the OPs cat was Terry Waite, the way people are talking about liberation, release and being reunited.

mrsbyers · 28/08/2023 13:06

Make sure the builder also retrieved the crab sticks or they will be stinking

user76541055773 · 28/08/2023 13:06

@Catsos I’m so glad that the builder is going to be able to get the cat out.

FWIF I haven’t seen any posters trolling you. I think if you were to re-read the thread in a week or so you might see that too.

Your first few posts were written in a tone of “isn’t this hilarious - look, fishsticks! Now I’ll post some ham through the vents”. Understandably half of responders thought they were joining in the hilarity and making up more ludicrous scenarios, and the other half suspected you were making it up for a laugh (particularly given the framing of the photos, and the seeming reluctance to do some of the more obvious and straightforward things).

As soon as you posted that you were actually distressed and not finding it funny that stopped (apart from the inevitable posters who didn’t read past the first page before responding).

Anyway, I am glad you are getting him back, and sorry it has been so stressful for you.

I do t think I have replied but I also kept coming back to see how it ended up.. happy with how it’s gone.
mom convinced the owner will laugh at this story and tell it widely in the future. You won’t have to move.

It may not be the OP's house, but there's a strong case for asking the builder to move something (birdbath, plywood etc) over the outside cat flap entrance before he leaves. That would be in the interests of both OP and new neighbours.

purplepandas · 28/08/2023 13:09

Amazing news @Catsos ! Was rooting for you and your cat.
