Fab news this morning.

Our cat got herself locked into our next door neighbours house on numerous occasions. It had been empty for years. The old lady who had lived there had passed away and her son used to come and visit the house most days. He wouldn't sell - I think he kept it as some kind of shrine in her memory.

I stopped stressing about her after a couple of lockins as I knew the man would be back next day to let her out.

She would appear next day a filthy, hungry mess - you would have thought she would have learned a lesson, but nope she went back for more. If I were you @Catsos I'd block the flap up.

The builders (their number was on the renovation sign outside) have finally answered their phone after 48 hours of me calling and texting, an extremely kind Irish man who has found the whole thing hilarious. He said he will be come over to liberate my cat 😭😭😭😭

I’m soooooo bloody happy. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE KIND AND SYMPATHETIC REPLIES 💗💗💗 I’ve been reading them all and it’s really helped me feel less alone.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

😍Brilliant 😻

When he comes over make sure you take a box to get your cat in. Don't be letting him roam again for a while. Also pay the builder for coming out and take cleaning supplies and ask said builder to give you a bit of time to clean the mess.

Who are you? OP's mother or just a bossy arsehole?

LammasEve · 28/08/2023 12:37

Hope the builders arrive soon and he's released (and the crab sticks cleared up!). Cats can be such sods, one of ours got stuck in a neighbour's garage for 5 days, the neighbour was mortified when she came back off holiday and realised he was stuck (cat was fine, but very annoyed). Sadly we can't cat proof our garden before anyone starts plus we're very rural and the cats roam the fields mostly.

Hopefully if your new neighbours have cats they'll see the funny side, I know I would (as long as I knew the cat was ok). We used to have one who would go through other cat flaps, but to be fair the cats from those houses would come into ours too. It's basically open house for cats here.

OldTinHat · 28/08/2023 12:38

Hooray for the cat liberation!!

I'm so happy for you OP, you must be exhausted with all the worry.

Oh goodness, I am so relieved!!! Well done, OP!!

and please inform the neighbours about this. Cats and other animals could get in and make a huge mess.

I hope you can relax a little this afternoon. This must have been so exhausting and stressful!💐💐

The photo of how the cat got into the neighbours house was posted early in the first thread. It showed that there were screws, plus covers, to the entrance. That could have been removed.

After all @Catsos jumped over the neighbours' fence to get into the back to photo it.

This is what was posted, perhaps you dreamed that but you made up

To break into my new neighbours house *THREAD 2*

Great news that your poor cat will finally be released. But I actually think this whole experience has been a massive dose of karma for you - you have failed to stop your cat harassing your elderly neighbours for years and it’s a wonder that this is the first time this has happened. Hopefully you will now take some to consider how you can be a better neighbour and cat proof your bloody garden.

Oh look another cat hating moron.

Cat "harassing elderly neighbours". Where are all the idiots on this thread crawling out from?

Why the fuck should she cat proof her garden? What if she can't afford to? What if she doesn't have a garden? What if it is a tiny yard? What if it is acres of garden and would cost a fortune?

RedDawg · 28/08/2023 12:41

Fabulous news, can we have a photo of the rascal when he’s released please. ☺️

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 12:42

Thanks you so much, @FFSWhatToDoNow and @VeloVixen !

The rolling logs sound ingenious and not too unsightly, but the prison compound-type fence is as ugly as I imagined.

terraced · 28/08/2023 12:43

Good news Smile

rosao · 28/08/2023 12:43

@placemats it's pretty clear that removing the screws would only potentially remove that side of the cat flat meaning it wouldn't have made any difference to the internal flap where the cat was...

For someone who's apparently lost a beloved cat themselves you seem very sure that for some reason op wouldn't open the cat flap and rescue her cat if it was possible!

intotheblueagain · 28/08/2023 12:44

I'm here for the release photo! So glad you've found help OP - this is just the kind of weird situation I can imagine finding myself in 😁

So outer shell has been screwed into the wall, easily removed. 'Slight bend' became a 90 degree bend on this thread.

You're not doing the OP @Catsos any favours by posting this.

ImABox · 28/08/2023 12:45

Yay for the nice builder! Go in armed with anti bac wipes to collect the fish sticks soaked in water 😂
Sorry people are being mean, of course you would do anything to rescue him over the long bank holidays weekend!

That’s the cost of owning a cat.

Presumably you think it’s fine for us to have the cost of catproofing our garden so the actual cat owners don’t have to. 😡 😡 😡

CoolShoeshine · 28/08/2023 12:46

Yay for cat freedom 🐱
and hopefully ham and crab stick clearance!
definitely put something over the cat flap to prevent a reoccurrence before the new neighbours move in

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 12:21

Second time of asking - how TF can you “cat-proof a garden”?

Anyone?

Please?

I can only imagine a kind of wire cage over the entire outdoor area, how very unlovely that would look.

You can fit things that go around the top of your wall/fence sort of like roller bars the slope inwards.

Great update OP, glad the little monkey will soon be home safe and sound.
