I guess you’ll have to be prepared to bung some money to the owners in case your cats toileted on carpets/walls - hopefully if they have, they’ve done it in one contained area that can be cleaned up easily.

If the cat has crapped and peed all over carpets, I'd be wanting them replaced, not cleaned, if I was the owner and anything else made good at the OPs expense as well.

DeanElderberry · 28/08/2023 12:11

Hooray! Ask him to hang around long enough for you to do a little emergency post-cat cleaning. And block off the cat flap, because knowing cats, lessons will not have been learned . . . .

So you had the numbers of the builders and were ringing them continuously - that's a new one. They are coming to rescue the cat.

Meanwhile you have posted pictures, been mean about your very nosy neighbours. Climbed over a fence. Said you would smash through the window.

Meanwhile people are genuinely worried about your cat because they have been in a similar situation.

I'm also a very kind Irish person by the way.

So pleased your cat is now safe. Can't understand why it's taken two threads to do this, and stress to those watching especially as you never told us in the first place you had the numbers of the builders.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

How kind.

Why can't you just be happy for them?

user1492757084 · 28/08/2023 12:13

Catastrophe is averted. Well done Mr Irish builder.

ImNotWorthy · 28/08/2023 12:13

I only read this today - saw the first thread in Trending but didn't realise it was about a trapped cat Sad

By the time I caught up on it all, you had liberated him Smile
He's beautiful. Do come over to the Litter Tray board if you want to chat with other cat slaves!

medianewbie · 28/08/2023 12:13

Good news ! I'd go armed with plenty of cleaning supplies & £50 for the builder's trouble (bank holiday). Feed (& contain) your beautiful but spirited cat. Then plan how to contain your Houdini-cat so no further episodes like this!

🥹🥹MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH 🥹🥹

The builders (their number was on the renovation sign outside) have finally answered their phone after 48 hours of me calling and texting, an extremely kind Irish man who has found the whole thing hilarious. He said he will be come over to liberate my cat 😭😭😭😭

I’m soooooo bloody happy. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE KIND AND SYMPATHETIC REPLIES 💗💗💗 I’ve been reading them all and it’s really helped me feel less alone.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

What amazing news

totally agree with you, Karma for trolls!

HB1974 · 28/08/2023 12:15

That's wonderful!

I agree about a payment and a gift for the builder.

I hope your cat is OK. He's beautiful!

Yeah I accidentally shut my cat in a walk in wardrobe for a weekend and there was piss and shit everywhere. Going to be very expensive for the OP I guess.

And as to the various cat-hating trolls on here, get a grip! Cats exist and have as equal a right to exist as humans. It's not their fault humans have urbanised the earth with their walled gardens and deadly roads and traffic, infrastructure noise, pollution. What will you be suggesting next - birds shouldn't be allowed to fly in case they drop bird poo on your property? Foxes and squirrels need to be caged? Hedgehogs?

I'm certainly not a troll and a huge animal-lover. In fact, we have loads of pets, but if you get a PET it's absolutely your responsibility to keep it safe and from damaging other people's property. Otherwise don't get a pet or get a different one.

butteringthestairs · 28/08/2023 12:17

Very pleased the OP is getting her cat back. What a shame she didn't mention yesterday in response to the hundreds of posts on how to track down someone with access to the house that she had a contact number for the builders and had been calling it from the very start.

HeatherMoores · 28/08/2023 12:17

I’m glad we’ve had this thread though. Bank holiday telly’s been shit.

Hopefully the builder can somehow seal the cat flap.

Just make sure when the builder arrives and opens the door it doesn’t terrify the cat into bolting out into the road. That would be an unexpected Hitchcockian twist we don’t want.

Papillon23 · 28/08/2023 12:18

Don't forget to collect the crab sticks at the same time as the cat! 😺

I'm so glad the builders have answered OP, best of luck for the liberation.

This.

oneleggedspider · 28/08/2023 12:20

Great news!! Please post a final update pic when you get him home. 💕

rosao · 28/08/2023 12:20

@placemats and @butteringthestairs get over yourselves. The op was obviously upset both yesterday and today and I assume as there was no answer on the phone number it wasn't exactly news to share.

The mean spiritedness of people never ceases to amaze.

But given it's a bank holiday and they took 48 hours to answer, it's not like that was an instant fix is it

ZolaBudd · 28/08/2023 12:20

Sorry, but we need a picture of you and the , the cat, you looking delighted and him looking bored 😂

placemats · 28/08/2023 12:20

kinderbuenoyum · 28/08/2023 12:11

Why can't you just be happy for them?

What part of 'so pleased for you' don't you get?

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 12:21

Second time of asking - how TF can you “cat-proof a garden”?

Anyone?

Please?

I can only imagine a kind of wire cage over the entire outdoor area, how very unlovely that would look.

user1471538283 · 28/08/2023 12:21

Yay! How wonderful!

butteringthestairs · 28/08/2023 12:22

Well, it's been entertaining. Goodbye and thanks for all the fish as someone once said.

  • Take at least £20 for the builder.
  • a cat carrier, in case your cat is in a running away mood.
  • take a roll of kitchen roll, bin bag, cleaning wipes, washing up gloves.
  • ask to remove the crab sticks & wipe off melted ice cubes
  • ask to check if the cat had access to water (door open to a room with a dripping sink, toilet without toilet blu, e.g.)
  • duct tape to seal off the cat flap.
  • write a note explaining what happened, why you've sealed the cat flap and your phone number in case further damage is discovered. maybe even post the Mumsnet link.
  • if the cat had no access to water, go to a vet.

For the love of god block up the cat flap once the little treasure is out. Otherwise, as soon as the builder has driven off around the corner, the cat will look straight at you, and then go back inside the house.
