To wear the same outfit every day?

FoodFann · 28/08/2023 09:02

I don’t do this, but the thought has crossed my mind. Men wear a suit every day, with a slightly different shirt and tie.

I’m not into clothes, although everyone says I look nice, I basically rotate a couple of dresses and a couple of trouser outfits for work. And casually, it’s just a couple of outfits too.

Would it be easier just to wear the same thing every day? Does anyone do this?

I have a capsule wardrobe, mainly navy and white shirts, tops/tshirts, jumpers, and trousers/jeans. Anything goes with anything else, so I don't have to think about it and still look smart-ish. It stops me buying random clothes, because I've given myself strict rules on what to wear! I really like dressing this way.

KateyCuckoo · 28/08/2023 09:05

I do. I'm a childminder and basically wear black leggings/Joggers and a coloured cap sleeved t shirt every day. Add a hoody depending on weather. Grin

BibbleandSqwauk · 28/08/2023 09:11

My friend wears a black trousers suit every day with different, usually brightly coloured tops. Has done for over twenty years in the same job. I envy the simplicity but would get bored I think.

cryinglaughing · 28/08/2023 09:13

Same trousers for me everyday, just change the top I wear.

FoodFann · 28/08/2023 09:14

Thank you everyone, a resounding thumbs up to a capsule wardrobe then. I think I feel a big wardrobe clear out coming on🤔

I have 14 identical white t shirts. I wear them with cotton trousers in summer, jeans or cords in winter. It makes getting dressed very quick and efficient, and means I never have to go clothes shopping - I just get a new batch online when they wear out.
I daresay a fashionista would be bored or horrified, but I’m a) retired and b) autistic, so very happy with my routine!

It's not just one suit though. Even if it may look like ut because many are similar.

Absolutely thumbs up for capsule wardrobe. I am planning on doing that for work too

I think simplifying lots of things is good. We're under so much pressure to look amazing, cook amazing food, go on big experiences. I wear a pretty repetitive range of clothes. I'm happy with that.

Where do you buy them? Do they shrink?

DrManhattan · 28/08/2023 12:00

Fisk with her brown suit

Divebar2021 · 28/08/2023 12:04

I think it sounds efficient and even if you don’t do it across your whole wardrobe you could have a capsule wardrobe for work. I would be bored to death but I like clothes and enjoy being able to play around with looks.

CrotchetyQuaver · 28/08/2023 12:16

I don't wear the exact same thing every day, but it's pretty much the same thing adjusted for the weather. Jeans or shorts, t shirts or long sleeved tops, jumper/fleece/coat as necessary. Makes life a lot simpler.

I wouldn't wear the same pair of trousers every day though, I do clean ones every other day

My DS2 is autistic. This is what he does but his are 7 different colours, 1 for each day. So Monday = blue, Tuesday = pink etc he wears them with black work trousers at school and black chinos at home. I works for him and takes away any decision making which lets him focus on his teaching.

Margo34 · 28/08/2023 13:03

Jeans and a top. Every day. I'm in a funk. (Not the same jeans and top every day, just to clarify! Cleans ones!)

Sarvanga38 · 28/08/2023 13:04

They noticed Leah, they noticed - particularly as you only washed it four times (and I am an utter splatters by most people’s standards).

I am definitely trying to simplify my wardrobe too, to a ‘capsule wardrobe’ type level, but not to the same thing every day.

thistimelastweek · 28/08/2023 13:06

All my clothes look the same so it must look like I never change.

SocksAndTheCity · 28/08/2023 13:07

It worked for Angela Merkel. I think I read she had the same (or virtually the same) suit made in about 100 different colours.

Give0fecks · 28/08/2023 13:07

@CommonVetch i would absolutely love to achieve this but I am just paralysed by indecision and lack of imagination to creating a capsule wardrobe. I have looked online but haven’t found ideas that suit my (lack of) style - I change outfits a million times in the morning if something doesn’t “feel right” eg too hot, too cold, too tight.

zingally · 28/08/2023 13:49

A lady I know through work does this. Every day she wears black trousers and a blue button-down shirt.
At first I thought it was a bit weird, but now I can see the benefit. For people in a busy, high pressure job, removing that bit of "decision making" from your day can be a real blessing.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 28/08/2023 13:50

I do. I own a black jacket, three identical pairs of black trousers and five of the same blouse but in different colours. That covers a week at work!

Glorifried · 28/08/2023 13:51

I have multiple pairs of the same black trousers for work, worn with either boots, shoes or sandals and top / jacket depending on weather.

So much simpler!

Yoghurtpotsatdawn · 28/08/2023 13:55

As long as your clothes are clean and you are happy I’d say go for it. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. I think most people probably have way too many clothes and only wear a small selection of what they have .

PhantomErik · 28/08/2023 14:05

I do this with clothes, I have about 20 pairs of black pants, 10 x black socks, 6 x black t-shirts, 2 x black jeans, 2 x blue jeans, 3 x white t-shirts & 2 x t-shirt bras (1 almond & 1 black)

All items are the same designs.

I like clothes feeling familiar & if I change & try wearing colours I find it keeps catching my eye & I find that stressful.

I go through phases of trying different styles & colours but when life gets busy or stressful I revert back to the above 'uniform'.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 28/08/2023 14:05

My work wardrobe is ultra conservative by necessity. I have a rail of black dresses and jackets that all go with each other. Couple of decent handbags. A few pairs of black shoes. It’s very liberating. I love it. I look quite “put together” at work.

Out of work it’s more of a mish mash and I have struggled to find my way a bit having entered my 50s. I wish my out of work dressing was as simple as my work wear.
