It's my 60th birthday on Wednesday and I have a suspicion that my mother will put in a surprise appearance (which would be lovely!).

Evidence for - my partner, who would be a lousy poker player, is trying to hide a smirk whenever I mention her. Also he has cleaned out the spare room which has been a dumping ground while we've been renovating. This is very unlike him.

Evidence against - she sent a box, not to be opened until Wednesday.

What do you think?

If everyone says that she will be there, you are going to be crushed if she isn't. I hope that she is and tbh this is why surprises aren't about the person who is being surprised. They could have given you the gift of anticipation instead.

@Ponoka7 - no, I won't be crushed, I'm 60 (-2 days!) and it would take a lot more than that to crush me!!!

She didn't turn up. Quite fortunately as it happened - the temporary patio doors blew out yesterday so we've spent all morning fitting new ones! Not exactly what I expected on my birthday but looking forward to dinner and a night in a local hotel 😁
