Staying at a 4 star hotel in a UK city.At dinner tonight we asked for vinegar and it was served in a ramekin......bizarre!!!

What sort of vinegar was it?

CondimentConfusion · 27/08/2023 22:28

There was about a tablespoons worth in there.

No, I also hate milk in a jug. I only want a splash and I hate the thought the rest will be thrown away.

Oh, well, there’s probably people who’d complain about a branded bottle of vinegar on the table at a 4 star hotel. They’d definitely complain about a plastic bottle of milk.

If it was balsamic to dip crusty bread in I would be fine with it but malt seems a bit odd, I agree.

WasserUndBrot · 27/08/2023 23:42

Seems fine, drizzle it on with a spoon. What did you want a bottle of it on the table like a greasy spoon?!

Talipesmum · 27/08/2023 23:44

Vinegar should be in a drizzling bottle if it’s for sprinkling over, ramekin is fine if you’re dipping into it. V funny! Clearly they’re too fancy to put a bottle of sarsons on the table but not smart enough to have a nice alternative.

It wasn't presented with a spoon for drizzling and we didn't have one on the table.
Most places would serve it in a plain vinegar bottle, as with olive oil.

If they have a standard British, chip-heavy menu then of course they should have a vinegar bottle available. If the vinegar was for a less usual use and their menu isn't a 'something n chips' type thing, then I'd forgive them for not having anything better to serve it in.
