Extreme tiredness

Over the past few weeks I've been really tired. Like bone tired. My legs ache and I need a lie down by about 5pm. I have a toddler but she sleeps fairly well. I don't feel like I'm getting poor quality or a lack of sleep. I've certainly had periods in life where I've had less sleep and not felt this tired.

Do I need to see a GP? Could it be a deficiency? Or do I just need to ride it out and see if it improves after the holidays? Life has been pretty hectic lately I guess.

Its most likely to be an iron deficiency. Best go to the doctor for a blood test :)

Missmaria123 · 26/08/2023 20:37

it might be iron or vitamin d deficiency. I’d go to the GP and ask for some routine bloods

I feel exactly the same and I don't have kids. I had Covid for the first time ever in the spring and it absolutely floored me. Haven't felt the same since. I used to be able to go into work and then go to the gym on the way home or meet friends in town etc; no chance I could do that now. I do three days a week in the office and two from home and the in-office days are a real struggle. I hate it. No answers but all the sympathy OP!

I've felt exactly like this too after baby was born. Sounds definitely like an iron deficiency

hungryalways23 · 26/08/2023 20:40

A few weeks ago I had what I thought was a sickness bug - 12 hours of vomiting and diarrhoea. The diarrhoea lingered for longer. A lot of people have said that covid is presenting with gastro symptoms now so I'm starting to wonder if this tiredness is a by product of that. Either way I'm shattered all the time. I don't have the best diet so I maybe need to fix that too.

It won't hurt to request some blood tests at your gp.

TotalOverhaul · 26/08/2023 20:42

Try Vit D spray and Feroglobin iron capsules. If either of those deficiencies are the issue you will probably feel better within days.

Also make sure you are drinking enough. Dehydration can make you really sleepy.

Are you on any medication? Some anti depressants can make you sleep for hours.

But also go to the doctor to get thyroid, anemia and sleep apnonea checked as these are also common reasons for exhaustion.

Hi I had extreme tiredness to the point that I would be ready for a nap every afternoon. I had a blood test and am deficient I. Iron and vitamin D. I am taking supplements which are making a difference. I am also taking a b12 supplement in a spray form which i feel is really helping.
Definitely get blood test booked and ask discuss results for in my experience GP will report that levels are within the normal range but would be just about within the range.
Good luck x

I'm with you OP, could have written this paragraph....so tired lately and have actually had sickness and diahorrea today.I had bloods done afew months back and they came back fine.Like you diet not great I guess, try to exercise but with a clingy 6yo and 1yo (who is still up at night and quite reliant on breastfeeding) it isn't easy to get out, not alone have the energy to go.I like you am hoping I might feel better after the holidays.
Other thing is, could it be a kidney infection? I'm wondering if mine is xx

hungryalways23 · 26/08/2023 21:32

It's funny you mention kidney infection as I've been weeing a lot lately but no pain or anything so who knows. I'm just struggling to do anything in the evenings other than veg out in front of the tv. I feel crap.
