First World problem but how do people stop filling falling out the hole in bagels. I quite like scrambled egg in a bagel but it just doesn't seem to stay in there. What am I doing wrong?

Your error is not filling it with cream cheese and smoked salmon + lemon + pepper.

Babyroobs · 26/08/2023 12:46

If I was having scrambled egg with a bagel I would use a knife and fork so it wouldn't matter if a bit of egg fell through the hole as I wouldn't be picking it up. I would only pick a bagel up to eat if it had something like bacon and avocado in. Butter can be a problem as it slides off through the hole, there is no solution really apart from scrimping on the butter !

Bacon and avocado bagel
bacon and avocado bagel
bacon and avocado bagel ………….
goes off to check fridge.

YES …………….

You make a butter plug. HTH.

Chickenkorma64 · 26/08/2023 12:59

You name them correctly, it’s Beigel pronounced [buy-ghul]

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/08/2023 13:09

Do beigels not have holes in then?

Diospyros · 26/08/2023 13:39

I don't put filling in the hole Confused

Are you trying to eat the bagel whole? Maybe try cutting it in half?

Or make a scrambled omelette. Stop scrambling just before the eggs are set then cook a little longer without stirring to break them up so there is a thin layer at the bottom joining the scrambled eggs into one.

cocoloco117 · 26/08/2023 13:39

Make your scrambled egg a bit more “set” like an omelette, so not in little pieces that can fall out.

Shahira78 · 26/08/2023 13:39

you go around the hole?

Not in English it isn’t!

Beigel is used in English. We have just been influenced by the more popular term in the USA, bagel, so unless you are part of the diaspora that brought beigels to the UK, you wouldn’t be aware of this.

Diospyros · 26/08/2023 14:59

Chickenkorma is correct,@cocoloco117.

Although I would argue that a beigel and a New York bagel are different beasts altogether... If OP is eating one of those dry supermarket abominations that are steamed instead of boiled, the Americans can keep them and their spelling 😂

Actually, a proper beigel might solve OP's problem... IME beigels don't really have a much of a hole like New York bagels.

Or cream cheese, strawberries, loads of crushed lack pepper and a squirt of balsamic, bliss and I'm now feeling hungry.

youwouldthink · 26/08/2023 15:03

See if you lay loads of the crispiest smoked streaky bacon across is stops the lettuce and tomato falling through the hole!

Whatsthepoint1234 · 26/08/2023 15:05

Go to a proper Jewish bakery. My grandfathers beygls as he called them barely even had a hole!

Ohthatsabitshit · 26/08/2023 15:10

Make a little omelette first then scrambled eggs or add bacon, smoked salmon or a slice of tomato

UndercoverCop · 26/08/2023 15:10

A proper Beigel only has a tiny hole. Problem solved

Annaishere · 26/08/2023 15:11

You need to make the yolk runny
