To ask for ideas to trick DS onto giving me his work hoodie off so that I can wash it?

DS started an apprenticeship a few weeks ago. He loves it so much that he wears his work hoodie all week and all weekend. He never seems to take it off. Consequently, it’s filthy. His work shirts and trousers are washed and he showers every day, but I have not managed to get the hoodie to wash it. His GF stays over most nights so I don’t want to creep into his room to get it.

So I need your imaginative ideas for how to get his hoodie to wash it. Please keep it lighthearted. Thanks.

Email his boss. Tell him he must be a fantastic boss as your son loves his new job so much that you can't get his hoodie off him to wash it, and please could he have a second one to wear while you wash the first because the smell is becoming intolerable.

Please do not do this. Don't infantile him like that

Qwerty21 · 26/08/2023 11:19

I don't even understand why this is a question you have to ask. Surely you just say "son your hoody needs washing regularly like the rest of your work clothes. Get it in the washer"

Tell him to look inside the washing machine drum then just shove him inside and wash him and the hoodie at the same time 🤷🏻‍♀️

🤣🤣🤣

KitchenSinkLlama · 26/08/2023 11:22

Don't get the GF to get it. It isn't her job, nor is washing his clothes, yours. Let the mucky article get told by his mates that he is filthy. He is old enough to work so he is old enough to keep himself hygienic.

NoSquirrels · 26/08/2023 11:24

Can’t you just say ‘DS, that hoodie is filthy! It needs a wash.’? Say it in front of his GF if that’ll help.

snowballsinhell · 26/08/2023 11:24

How is this a problem?

Seriously "right Jamie.. you're disgusting, grow up"

Sorted

NoSquirrels · 26/08/2023 11:24

And ask him if he can buy/get an extra one.

MyrtleSmurf · 26/08/2023 11:25

Agree with most of these posts, if I want my 18 year old to do something I ask in front of his girlfriend. She will then "remind" him!
Mine doesn't have a uniform but he does have favourite shirts that I practically have to tear away from him.

VeridicalVagabond · 26/08/2023 11:26

Meet me on my dog walk this afternoon with him. I've got three big, smelly dogs who will be absolutely filthy as it's pissing down. I'll get them to jump all over him and cover him with mud and moss and bits of twig. This service will cost you three small pieces of chicken.

Sigmama · 26/08/2023 11:26

Stop infantalising your sons, you're doing no favours for their future wives

Elfandwellbeing · 26/08/2023 11:26

He’s old enough for an apprenticeship so he is old enough to take the flack for being dirty and smelly. Do nothing.

SirenSays · 26/08/2023 11:28

Lock him out in the next rain storm, be ready to throw soap.

Taxiii · 26/08/2023 11:30

"Son, you need to get yourself a second work hoodie, that one's going to crawl into the washer by itself."

Please do NOT enlist the GF as a weird back up Mum who somehow ends up partly responsible for other people's hygiene.

InSpainTheRain · 26/08/2023 11:35

Why not just say "your Hoodie needs washing it's starting to smell". No need for secrecy or subterfuge

Icycloud · 26/08/2023 11:36

Get nice smelling laundry detergent and then ask him if he likes it and then suggest you wash the hoodie with it

Yup, this is a great idea if you want to completely humiliate your son at his work 🙄

redskytonights · 26/08/2023 11:43

If he's old enough to work, he's old enough to do his own washing at a time he deems fit and not when you think it needs doing. His choice is he wants to wear a filthy (I bet it probably isn't) hoodie.

if you have issues with smell, or the hoodie coming in contact with furniture or something else specific then explicitly say those things.

Dogsitterwoes · 26/08/2023 11:43

Explain to him if he doesn't keep his uniform clean, he's likely to get in trouble at work.

Then explain to him he's a big boy now so he's going to do his own laundry from now on.

Leave him to it

If he ends up smelling too bad/greasing up the furniture, don't let him in the room

It's that magical time in a boy's life when it's time to grow up.

Growingouttogether · 26/08/2023 11:50

I don’t understand how he’s old enough to have a girlfriend stay over at night but not old enough to know how a washing machine works or that clothes require washing regularly.

Hahahahahaha

Jesseweneedtocook · 26/08/2023 12:00

For God's sake op. This is why So many men can't take care of themselves! Tell him his hoodie fucking stinks and surely he's noticed?

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 26/08/2023 12:11

Seriously dude, it smells. Put it in the wash now!

ImNotReallySpartacus · 26/08/2023 12:16

If he's old enough to have an apprenticeship and a girlfriend, his clothes are no longer your problem.

CurlewKate · 26/08/2023 12:17

Up to him, surely?

Sheldoncoopersspot · 26/08/2023 12:17

Chase after him with some febreeze.
