To ask for ideas to trick DS onto giving me his work hoodie off so that I can wash it?

DS started an apprenticeship a few weeks ago. He loves it so much that he wears his work hoodie all week and all weekend. He never seems to take it off. Consequently, it’s filthy. His work shirts and trousers are washed and he showers every day, but I have not managed to get the hoodie to wash it. His GF stays over most nights so I don’t want to creep into his room to get it.

So I need your imaginative ideas for how to get his hoodie to wash it. Please keep it lighthearted. Thanks.

I would ask in front of the GF. Then he can't realistically say no without looking odd. Maybe pop into his room with snacks etc for them & ask for it then. I know you said keep it lighthearted but he should really know it needs washed & be doing his washing himself if he's working & has a steady GF he's clearly capable!

Ask him? Or even better leave him to wash it himself!

BashfulClam · 26/08/2023 09:14

Tell him to look inside the washing machine drum then just shove him inside and wash him and the hoodie at the same time 🤷🏻‍♀️

HakunaMatiłda · 26/08/2023 09:15

Time for a grown up conversation - tell him it will start to smell and he will become the butt of jokes at work.

JMSA · 26/08/2023 09:15

Sorry, but I just have to say that this is so cute. He loves his apprenticeship so much that he wears his work hoodie 24/7 Grin Long May it last!
I'd be pretty forthright about this 'your hoodie is boggin', so take it off right now'.
It would also be good if you got his girlfriend in on the act, as she must be feeling it too!

jeaux90 · 26/08/2023 09:15

It's time for a washing machine lesson OP so he can get it done himself. Grin

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 26/08/2023 09:16

Stop washing his clothes. When he does his own washing it might make him think a little more about how often things should be washed.

Alternatively keep asking him what that smell is every time you are near him. Let him figure it out.

Conkersinautumn · 26/08/2023 09:17

You need to accidentally throw a drink/ spray him with the hose. He seriously needs to look at a spare!

nimski · 26/08/2023 10:37

Accidentally chuck ketchup or similar over him 😆

CruCru · 26/08/2023 10:52

Yeah, don’t throw food at him. You’d be furious if he did it to you - and it would be awful if the ketchup or whatever didn’t come out.

My eleven year old is capable of being told that his stuff needs washing. If this guy is an apprentice, he will cope with being told that his hoodie is dirty and smells.

BabyStopCryin · 26/08/2023 10:53

THAT… OFF… NOW!
or do it when he’s asleep.

Thelnebriati · 26/08/2023 10:55

Ask him if there's a culture at his workplace to not have a clean hoodie as it makes you look like the new kid.

Daffidale · 26/08/2023 10:58

Spare hoodie definitely the way to go

LakieLady · 26/08/2023 10:59

Email his boss. Tell him he must be a fantastic boss as your son loves his new job so much that you can't get his hoodie off him to wash it, and please could he have a second one to wear while you wash the first because the smell is becoming intolerable.

ostwest · 26/08/2023 11:03

I can not imagine having such a relationship with my own son that I would be uncomfortable to ask him to give me his his hoodie to wash! Or still worrying about washing my son's clothes when he had a job and a girlfriend Confused

Sigmama · 26/08/2023 11:04

If he's old enough to work he's old enough to wash his clothes, cut the apron strings

TenOhSeven · 26/08/2023 11:05

If he's old enough to work, he's old enough to wash his own hoodie when he decides it needs it.

Hankunamatata · 26/08/2023 11:05

Tell him his hoodie is manky and to put it in the wash when he is heading to bed. And get him to ask work if he can get a spare

WhiteFire · 26/08/2023 11:05

I'd just hose him down.

Though if we bash your ds and mine together then we might get a good one out of the two of them (Doesn't wash, leaves a trail of clothes behind him)

Don't do this, how humiliating that would be.

BelindaBears · 26/08/2023 11:06

Turn the thermostat way up so he can’t bear to wear it in the house.

(Joking - just tell him to stop being such a scruff and put it in the washing machine himself)

Desecratedcoconut · 26/08/2023 11:07

Wait till he is home and then whack the heating up and sweat him out of it. Or just tell him.

NuffSaidSam · 26/08/2023 11:09

I think this is the answer 😂

Womblegreen · 26/08/2023 11:11

Just enlist the girlfriend’s help! Get her to comment on it or tell him to wash it.
