@LadyKenya I knew from Socrates post that word among the usual 's0 wHaT uRę sAyInG iZ tHaT whYte WimMen Ar£ bÃd pË0plè', would be the response. So allergic to accountability that the post has to be reduced and reframed to be regurgitated. The twisting of this post now appears to mean that women calling out sexism against ALL women is somehow racist. I think that's the call card for someone to pipe in with 'Well of course calling out sexism against ALL women is not racist' cue 'So what's the issue then, is it that you hate white women!!???' Grin A tradition passed down through the generations Kenya Gin

I'm not loving the tone of utter, sneering contempt there. It undermines any points made unfortunately.

wayyour · 27/08/2023 10:03

LizzieSiddal · 27/08/2023 09:40

@SomeCatFromJapan yes, plus they are definitely not all women.

It’s men telling women to shut the fuck up. As if we haven’t heard it all before.Hmm

I reported, and a few have done similarly, as it looks like there's been more of the same batshittery (excuse the expression !) this morning.

Some people have been winding up. The example of using the poll stats as support. Hmm

LadyKenya · 27/08/2023 10:04

The use of the word did not bother me in the slightest@ChardonnaysBeastlyCat . I wish that was all I had to get worked up about.

LadyKenya · 27/08/2023 10:07

This is why I can't really be doing with all this@DojaPhat . It really is something on here.

wayyour · 27/08/2023 10:10

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/08/2023 09:02

Women-hating posters are so obvious.

They are and the influence appears to be American, at least judging from the abundance of z in the spelling.

Why though? What makes a woman despise other women so much?

Anyway, I don’t want to derail this wreck of a thread even further. It’s just something I’ve been wondering, naively, perhaps.

Hopefully Mumsnet can now sort it out and ban the culprits. They won't want people put off posting here. I must say this has never happened on these threads before. It's usually just incel men saying we're the Karens for complaining about it.

It should. The same way the Karen slur should bother you.

Can I have a special word to describe the (hypothetical) misogyny of black men, Asian men? If not, why?

Something akin to a DEI initiative or Equal Opportunities for misogynists?
Why-ever not.

Your post isn't as glib as it first appears, there are some real issues with the lens through which some non-white (hate that term but better than BAME) men view white women. I don't think anyone has suggested that this isn't the case and can be harmfully pervasive left unchallenged.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 10:17

Not really, Dojaphat, more of a thought experiment 🤷‍♀️

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 10:18

So would it be ok to have a special word, then?

I actually think accusations of racism and being an apologist for racism are very grave ones, and to see them made baselessly as an attempt to silence women has been quite shocking to see.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 10:26

Quite.

IncognitoMam · 27/08/2023 10:27

I actually feel sorry for the men posting such toxic bile here. Only way they're getting any attention obviously.

AlisonDonut · 27/08/2023 08:41

White women objecting to sexism is racist because everything white women do, and everything white women say [and indeed think] is racist.

And when white women ask for evidence of this, that is in itself racist.

White women just need to shut up about everything, because whatever white women do, say or think is never bad enough to be worthy of whingeing about, and if you do, it automatically makes you a 'Karen'.

I think that's the nuts and bolts summed up.

I think this sums it up pretty well.

DojaPhat · 27/08/2023 10:50

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 10:18

So would it be ok to have a special word, then?

The absence of a specific term for Black or Asian men does not necessarily imply racism in itself. 'White feminism' came about as a critique of a specific trend within feminism that was centred around the experiences of white women to the exclusion of non-white women (i.e their experiences as a result of their race+sex). This is why intersectionality matters to me because far from thinking it to be about man-hating, angry women, it just seemed like it didn't apply to me. So it addresses issues within the feminist movement.

That said, it's possible to discuss misogyny within specific cultural contexts, including Black or Asian communities. If you're looking for a term that specifically addresses this issue, it might not be as widely recognised as 'white feminism' (though perhaps relevant when considering the direction the thread has taken) but frameworks to understand misogyny, gender roles, and sexism within any cultural context are complex and vary widely; there are some Black and Asian men who consider white women a prize above all other women - even (and especially) when compared to women from the same cultural / ethnic background as themselves.

MasterGaveDobbyASock · 27/08/2023 10:53

This thread is illuminating.
To begin with. Lots of women voicing their experiences of this word as a misogynistic slur, a tool to shut them up. Veiled accusations of racism with overtones of 'deserving' the abuse. A few posters state they are not white and experience the word as misogyny. Ignored by supposed 'allies'. Accusations grow more overt and aggressive and number of posters drop off, no doubt afraid to be accused of racism or 'white tears'. Women shut up very effectively.

Just an aside, 'tears as a weapon' is a patriarchal trope and interesting how supposed 'feminists' use it as a stick to beat other women with.

I can't genuinely follow the rant, but I notice we are chastised for concerns about 'transwomen'. I can't help but see the parallels as accusations of transphobic work very much as above.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 11:02

@DojaPhat

Thanks for the essay. But theoretically do you think it would be ok for white women to have a special word for a particular type of misogyny of black or Asian men towards them? Or would that be considered racist? You haven't answered that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/08/2023 11:03

Don't forget that white women are to blame for anything white men do. DeeCee mansplained it upthread... lynching is done by white men but the blame must be laid at the feet of the white women who urged them on. So let's ignore who does the killing and violence and join the witchunt.

What rule number of misogyny is that? We have had quite a few examples on this thread.

Women-hating posters are so obvious.

And the PP defending the ‘Karen’ ad because the ‘firm is based in a country which was invaded by white people’.
All the mental gymnastics to shut up ‘white women’, even though it’s not just them who are affected by misogyny.

inamarina · 27/08/2023 10:49

I think this sums it up pretty well.

And if this thread is anything to go by, it doesn't matter if black women are given the same treatment. Which very much makes it seem like those using accusations of racism aren't really focused on fighting racism. They just want to co-opt horrific historical cases of racism in order to get women to STFU about sexism. All whilst virtue signalling about what awesome social justice warriors they are.

Nice.

Glad to see sane intelligent posters have appeared on the thread. Beachcomber that’s a succinct and clear overview of what’s happened.
