To be panicking?

Keep receiving letters from three telling me I owe them money for a missed payment. I only use PAYG so this is not possible. The sort code and account numbers change everytime in the letters too. I googled the number and many reports that it was spam. The live chat advisors also said to ignore them.
However, I now have another letter saying they have got debt agencies involved because I haven't paid up. When I googled it said that even if I am not responsible for any of this, I still cannot ignore the letters. I am panicking so much. Just dont know what to do. I don't want bailiffs at my door.

I just don't see why I am also getting debt recovery letters. Surely a scammer couldn't do that.....

It's pretty simple. The same scammers are sending the fake debt recovery letters to scare you into paying up.

It isn't hard to imitate authentic debt recovery letters. No one is coming to collect any debt.

Annalisatheantelope · 24/08/2023 22:52

Someone said in my other thread that even if I have spoken to someone from 3 mobile that they don't have the full information to know if someone has taken out an account in my name so that's also why I am worried.

They would have the information. How did you get on checking credit score? Then you can see for yourself.

The scammers got your name and address amd are chancing their luck. They send out lots of letters and hope some people pay.

SunsetOverParadise · 24/08/2023 23:09

OP, you’re being told repeatedly it’s a scam. You’re not listening.

Annalisatheantelope · 24/08/2023 23:12

Yet nobody else seems to be getting the letters, only calls.
No mention of debt recovery letters either.

Off to do the credit check

Do you have a tech savvy relative that can sit down and talk you through all this in person OP? It might help to hear it from someone you know.

When my DH's gran got these types of letters/calls, she got very stressed and upset. She always felt better when she chatted it through in person. Strangers on MN aren't really helping you, hence why you've made a second thread.

egowise · 24/08/2023 23:18

Can you show us a picture of the letter? Your details covered up?

frozencarlotta · 24/08/2023 23:18

Annalisatheantelope · 24/08/2023 14:35

The letters just seem to be more and more threatening.
I've spoken to three on the live chat everytime and they say to ignore it but it's hard when you have letters saying that they are getting debt collectors involved etc. Can't help but worry and feel stuck. I've reported it many times to three but the letters persist and I don't know how to get them to stop.

Three have said to ignore

Ignore

The mobile provider cannot do anything. Somehow a bunch of scammers have got your details and are trying to extort money from you.

If anybody knocks at the door claiming to be a debt collector do not answer. Speak to them through the letter box. Of they do not leave then phone the police. Genuine debt collectors will probably stay but scammers will make a hasty exit.

They have NO RIGHT to force entry into your property.

Soapyspuds · 24/08/2023 23:20

Yea. Second this. Remove all your personal details and show us the letter.

Soapyspuds · 24/08/2023 23:21

Of course they can. All they need is a printer.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 24/08/2023 23:24

Scan all the letters to three in an email advising you gave no debt etc and can they check why they are issuing it. They'll then confirm it's a scam.

Alternatively, have you checked the name, email and contract number for the debt collection agency is real. Don't ring but check online, ask others etc. If they are legit contact them and ask for supporting evidence for their claim.

PonyPatter44 · 25/08/2023 07:34

If you tell us the name and address and company registration number of the "debt collectors ", which will be at the top of the letters they have sent you, people here will help you to check if its a real company or not it won't be.

TheAOEAztec · 25/08/2023 07:53

You are being repeatedly told it's a scam. You were on the last thread weeks ago. 3 told you it's a scam.

This is why they keep doing it, because people will still pay up even after told by everyone, including the actual company, that it's a scam. 🤦
You even added phone number to the last one and first link shows it's not genuine 3 number.

I have a feeling you were done once already on something and now your details are marked as "will pay" in their database.

TheHappyCarrot · 25/08/2023 08:10

To be honest you sound like the perfect person to scam as you are being very naive and also ignoring everyone telling you it's a scam.

The escalating to bailiffs is to scare you into paying, classic tactics.

Payg means pay as you go so you don't accumulate debt.

IHeartGeneHunt · 25/08/2023 08:19

Three can't help because they're nothing to do with it. It's not them sending the letters, because you don't owe any money to them.

It's a scam. Ignore it. Nobody can do anything to you, because the "debt" simply does not exist.

This! I am confused tho, why OP is still going on about it?

Annalisatheantelope · 25/08/2023 12:15

Well, my suspicions were right. I have been a victim of fraud. Someone tried to take an account out in my name and succeeded.
I spoke to a woman from the social media team today and she immediately saw there was an issue. She said she will keep me updated and stop the letters but she has to go through a few different channels.
Really not happy as I was told over and over that there was no problem. This lady was the only one who saw there was.
Didn't get to look at my credit rating yet as had a raging migraine last night through stress. Luckily she has sent me confirmation that I am a victim of fraud so I have that as back up. Absolutely awful experience.

Send a polite note back that any further contact and you will involve police for harassment.

Having a single identifier actually makes it EASIER to commit identity fraud.

OP seems to want to come on here to flap and panic, but not take any of the advice given.

It doesn't really. You have to prrsent that ID when doing the contract. Without it you get nothing. Plus nowadays they are electronic with chip.
I mean like you can turn up with any old shit basically in UK and get sorted.
You can always get a rule of ID+something but it's ridiculous people can get bank accounts/contracts/loans with something they can rob of your mailbox or bin easily

changedusername190 · 25/08/2023 14:48

record your calls and screenshot your payg deal i'm with gif gaf and their app shows what's included in my payg deal eg minutes, txt and data and when my bundle renews each month.
surely if you've got a debt they will cut you off.

@TheAOEAztec

>You have to present the card

How many things are done in person nowadays? So if you present the card somewhere online, you're opening up yourself to identity theft.
