Seller changed his mind

I have bought and paid for an £8k caravan. Due to pick it up next week, the seller has now said he has changed his mind and will give me a refund. I don't want a refund I want the van. Is there anything I can do?

Yes claim breach of contract

mycoffeecup · 24/08/2023 13:30

In reality, nothing, unless you have a cast-iron written contract and want to take him to court to enforce it.

Frabbits · 24/08/2023 13:31

In the real world unless you want a huge amount of hassle just take the refund and find another van.

I suppose it depends on if it's a private sale or a proper dealership type place.

That's a large sum of money to pay upfront, how did you pay?

Aylestone · 24/08/2023 13:46

How on gods green earth did you end up in a situation where you’ve handed over an absolutely huge amount of money without having the item in your possession at the handover? Take the refund and be grateful you’ve been given your money back at all!

It's someone we know, a friend's father in law. We transferred the money to seal the deal with the intention of picking it up this weekend. He has texted and basically said we've changed our minds. Not even a sorry. I'm just a bit disgruntled that he could go back on his word, I'm disappointed mostly, but I guess without a lot of hassle I'll just have to accept it.
