GCSE grades baffling

My sons science grade is completely baffling. There is no guidance whatsoever. I get the numbers 1-9 but in combined science it’s 32 (grade equivalent 165) apparently on the foundation paper. There’s absolutely no notes or grade boundaries or way to interpret it. Looked online and there’s nothing.

AIBU that they should be clearer and what was wrong with A-C old system. He’s SEN and tried really hard in science and he’s disappointed he has no way to know how he did.

If he did double science that’s two grades: a 3 and a 2.

It’s a grade 3 and a grade 2. I had similar last year with combined science and it took me half the day to get it.

The grade boundaries are published separately. You can get them on the different exam board websites.

As PP said. The grade is a 3-2 equivalent to 1 GCSE at grade 3 and another at grade 2.

The grades for foundation start at 5-5 then go down 5-4, 4-4, 4-3, 3-3, 3-2, 2-2, 2-1, 1-1

I’m currently trying to find grade boundaries for AQA science, it’s not on the list 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yep - it is a bit confusing if you aren’t told how it works. Years ago you’d get AA / BB etc for the dual science. Now it does make it look like the 32 is all one number rather than two grades!
