A is sitting at a table seat on a train, on the aisle seat and the window seat is empty. B gets on the train and asks to sit in the empty seat next to A. A says sorry, I'm holding this for my friend (C) who is just getting on now.

B says I'm here and I would like to sit down please (may not be exact words).

A gets up to find another seat. C is not far behind her as she has just got on the train and says "what a bitch. I was literally behind you" about A.

Who is unreasonable?

B, if C is getting on at the same station.

I'm confused, do a b and c know each other or am I thick?!

A was keeping the seat for C and C says to B that A was a bitch?!

Have I confused my A, B and Cs?

A and C appear know one another. B is just another person on the train

this should say:

If A didn't explain to B that C was right behind them then A is being unreasonable. Unless you've paid to reserve a seat then anyone can sit there.

If A had said "oh sorry my friend is actually sitting here, she's just behind you" then yeah B would be unreasonable. But for all B knew, A was holding the empty seat for 5-6 more stops, which is unreasonable.

B is unreasonable. Was it the last seat on the train?

I’d guess not, if A and C went to sit somewhere else

It wasn't the last seat as A and C got two table seats together but it was further down the carriage so neither A, B not C would have known whether they'd be able to get another seat (or another table seat if that's what they wanted)

I think A did say something like "she's just there" or "she's getting on now"

Full disclosure - I am not A, B or C and could not decide who was being U!

I didn't like A and C bitching about B and felt like saying "well she had a point" but they had a point too.

Obviously B was the unreasonable one.

In that case, unless it was the very last seat on the train, B was being unreasonable.

I hate seat holders on busy trains but if the person sitting in the "held" seat is literally seconds from the seat I think it's fine.

From there we couldn't see whether there were any more seats further down the carriage and people were getting on the other side.

I actually think I may agree with B!

It could have been the last seat and I don't think you should be able to save seats for people. I used to get a train that my DH would get on too and when we stopped at his station I wouldn't have felt like it was right to save a seat for him if someone getting on before him (even at the same stop) tried to sit there. But it's definitely not clear cut!

B was unreasonable here, especially if there were other seats

Assuming other seats were available (which they clearly were because A and C found somewhere else to sit) B is a complete dickhead and does not, in fact, ‘have a point’.

There were other seats but from where we were (I was behind B and in front of C) I couldn't see whether there were any free seats further down.

I dunno. I think they were all dicks about it tbf!
