Help! Wtf is this?

Hi
i went to bed last night and was absolutely fine. I woke up this morning with something weird on the side of my wrist and I have no clue what it is, it’s been 45 minutes and hasn’t gone away or improved and I wasn’t lieing on it during the night. It’s a yellowish patch and a red ring around it but not quite a bullseye. There’s also no spot or head in it eg a tick bite. It’s absolutely throbbing, like when I touch it it’s agony

anyone know what this is?

Help! Wtf is this?

Just went to the pharmacy- all fine thankfully. She said she initially thought ringworm from the description until she saw it and she said it’s not ringworm because of the blister but she’s not really sure what it is. She said to just keep it clean and if it’s worse after the weekend to contact the doctor. Panic over nothing thankfully!

It looks like a burn, but you'd know if you'd done that. But whatever it is, it looks really sore so I hope you get it sorted.

Yes that’s why I asked about a hot water bottle, my daughter had identical and it was from the lid.

AngelinaBlack · 24/08/2023 16:21

I thought it looked like a burn. I had a very less dramatic looking but similar thing on my finger and did remember a slight burn on the edge of a roasting tin the day before.

Cosyblankets · 24/08/2023 16:30

Looks like a horsefly bite to me

CoraPirbright · 24/08/2023 16:39

If the blister pops and the wound underneath is very deep then I have had these occasionally over the years. I have had 2 cut out by different dermatologists and they had no idea either! One said it was a very violent reaction- like a grenade going off in the skin. But without seeing who lobbed the grenade, it was impossible to tell what caused it . Hydrocortisone cream on it asap is the only thing that stops it growing and getting worse.

The bullseye thing is a sign of Lyme disease, which can be incredibly serious. If I was you I would 100% get tested for Lyme disease, just in case.

fabmaccawhackyrhumbsaloft · 24/08/2023 16:54

Op I've just been diagnosed with Lyme disease after two years of absolute hell.

If you start to feel like you have flu please see a doctor, it's could just be an insect bite but if it is a tick bite they do carry Lyme disease

I was only diagnosed because I went blind in one eye, it that was the last in a very long line of symptoms that have seen me unable to work , clean, walk, get upstairs, or go out

Keep the photos of the bite and if you start feeling I'll (between now and up to 30 days after the bite ) with flu like symptoms see the gp without delay .

Useyourfork · 24/08/2023 16:54

I would be stripping my bed and vacuuming everything in the bedroom 😳 I ‘ve been seeing spiders all over the place at the moment where we live. Glad the redness is settling down.

Leftinlimbo · 24/08/2023 17:01

Spider bite. I got bitten abroad once and was told that if there are two main holes then it is a spider bite, one hole more likely a mosquito or other flying insect.

wtfisthis3 · 24/08/2023 17:15

I actually thought of Lyme disease at first but I wasn’t sure because it’s only had one red ring around it and there was no obvious puncture site and I wasn’t sure if the blisters were consistent with Lyme disease? I am probably completely wrong though I don’t know much about it at all!

I actually do feel quite chesty but the pharmacist wasn’t concerned, I’m asthmatic so they said it was probably just a cold messing with my asthma because I don’t feel fluish apart from that x

Were you gardening yesterday? It looks like Phytophotodermatitis, I had patches on my arm earlier this year from pulling up some parsnip plants. It also appeared overnight and then got worst, it’s very much a burning feeling.

Oh I haven’t heard of that but the burning sounds similar but no nowhere near a garden x

That looks like I had when I got a false widow spider bite. It blistered the next day and then on 4th day developed cellulitis which apparently can be common with them, so please keep a close eye. It was incredibly painful.

Just keep an eye out for any flu like symptoms for a while

The nhs website has information on Lyme disease

Not all tick bites mean Lyme disease, but I didn't even know I'd been bitten

They can be the size of a pin head although I'm guessing you'd have seen one in your hand - they have to feed for 24-48 hours to transmit Lyme

I must have had one somewhere I couldn't see and didn't notice .

Little fuckers have cost me 2 years of my life !

WookieMama · 24/08/2023 17:47

Tick bite?

Bangwam1 · 24/08/2023 17:50

Tick, maybe a bullseye rash? You may want a doc to look that over as they may want to prescribe antibiotics in case it is a tick.

Also watch out for fever, flu like symptoms (lyme)

Spanielsarepainless · 24/08/2023 17:53

Another vote for tick bite.

I got this on holiday last year, we where caravaning in Scotland. turned into a round bruise. Right on my wrist near the vein. Also happened at night while sleeping.

It caused no symptoms then vanished, no idea what it is. Assume a bug bite.

JusthereforXmas · 24/08/2023 17:57

Also it never hurt, if not for the bullseye I wouldn't have known.

PollyCreo · 24/08/2023 17:57

I agree I spider bite. I had one two years ago and it hurt like fuck - felt like a cigarette burn. Stung for three days then went away.

Tulipvase · 24/08/2023 18:03

Pharmacists do a great job in dispensing medicine etc but I still think I would keep a close eye on that. My first thought was spider bite due to the 2 puncture marks. If it is, then I think false widow spiders can be nasty.

Montty · 24/08/2023 18:05

It’s 100% a spider bite.

Conqueeftador · 24/08/2023 18:18

Im pretty sure it’s a spider bite. The two little blisters give it away. A tick bullseye rash usually has a central red circle. I’m mildly surprised the pharmacist was so blasé about it, they can turn pretty nasty (though most don’t, so fingers crossed). As @Tulipvase says, keep a close eye on it and get it looked at again if it’s worsening.
