Help! Wtf is this?

Hi
i went to bed last night and was absolutely fine. I woke up this morning with something weird on the side of my wrist and I have no clue what it is, it’s been 45 minutes and hasn’t gone away or improved and I wasn’t lieing on it during the night. It’s a yellowish patch and a red ring around it but not quite a bullseye. There’s also no spot or head in it eg a tick bite. It’s absolutely throbbing, like when I touch it it’s agony

anyone know what this is?

Yeah in the photo it looks like it but in real life it’s definitely not ringworm or impetigo.

no pharmacy open this early here unfortunately but I’ll jump out on my lunch hour and find somewhere. I’ve taken antihistamines already but maybe I just need to give it more time

the centre part isn’t one big blister but in the last 15 minutes 2 small blisters side by side have popped up beside each other in the middle. It’s so painful and it feels like someone is throbbing my hand

Hydrocortisone cream and antihistamines are usually recommended by pharmacists for insect bites.

wtfisthis3 · 24/08/2023 07:58

Of course it’s so typical that I’ve been off for weeks with annual leave and then this happens as soon as I have something important at work!

it doesn’t feel itchy yet, it’s definitely more on the painful/throbbing side. It’s hot to touch although that’s to be expected

Not the best photo with the lighting/ glare but you can sort of see the 2 blisters in the middle

It looks like an bite to me. I’ve just had several very similar to that after gardening. It was only the next day that I noticed most of them, they didn’t swell up right away

Stickly · 24/08/2023 08:03

If you can't miss work for a GP appointment ask if you can email the photo in? It looks like you need antibiotics

AlwaysFreezing · 24/08/2023 08:05

I'm going with a spider bite. They can really hurt!

MixedTocopherols · 24/08/2023 08:07

Wow! That blister pic is dramatic

Marchbug · 24/08/2023 08:09

Definitely think photo to GP if you can, that red ring around it looks nasty. I'd also definitely draw around it to check for spreading, the blisters and pain look/sound a bit shingle like but not sure the rest matches up or the position of it

ickky · 24/08/2023 08:12

Spider bite, two blisters are the fang entry marks, they will probably merge into one blister. I would go to GP or A&E if it gets worse. They can get nasty.

Hope you feel better soon.

TokyoSushi · 24/08/2023 08:14

Oh OP, that looks grim, I think it's a bite, but a bad one.

Try the anti histamine/germolene etc maybe until lunchtime but you might need to get it seen. In that case it would fall in to the 'more important than a work event' category - your colleagues might say that when they see you anyway.

nancy75 · 24/08/2023 08:20

Agree spider bite, I had one on my leg like that but the size of a side plate. It middle but turned in to 1 blister & I did have to have antibiotics for it

FlamingoQueen · 24/08/2023 08:21

Have you brushed past a poisonous plant? (No idea how you would know it was poisonous though!). Hope you can get it seen today.

Physicstruck · 24/08/2023 08:22

Oh weird this happened to me a few weeks ago, it was almost exactly the same but on my pinkie joint. The only thing I could think of was I’d stroked a cat that day . It faded but took a few weeks.

mymcdonaldsaintonthemap · 24/08/2023 08:39

I'm pretty sure you've been bitten. We are getting bitten where we live up North which is not usual, thought we had fleas, but on visiting London there are mozzies and we've both got various types of bite all over us! Not sure why this year but it's all kinds of insect bite presenting all kinds of ways including like this. Just got one last night on my leg. Window wasn't even open.

rainbowstardrops · 24/08/2023 08:48

Ooh that looks nasty! I'd say definitely a bite that you've reacted to. I agree re emailing the GP a photo.
I got bitten years back above my ankle during the night. GP said it looked like a horsefly bite Confused Had to have countless courses of antibiotics to get on top of it, so I'd definitely get it looked at if I were you.

Hollyppp · 24/08/2023 09:33

This happens to me often. It’s an insect bite that’s got irritated. Mine normally go away after a week

eurochick · 24/08/2023 09:47

Spider bite. The two side by side blisters where the fangs entered are the giveaway. It looks like you have reacted badly to it.

TheMousePipes · 24/08/2023 09:56

Spider bite. Draw round it with a biro, get yourself to the doctors. My dh has just finished a monster course of 14 days x 2000mg antibiotics for something similar. Get there today so you can start treatment before it gets worse.

Fireandflames666 · 24/08/2023 10:20

That looks like a spider bite, can you see any puncture holes?.

EweCee · 24/08/2023 10:25

Agree a bite. My dd just finished a horrible course of antibiotics for similar, although her bite site went nasty, raw and weeping before eventually crusting over. Not fun.

wtfisthis3 · 24/08/2023 15:41

I’m going to a pharmacy right now as I’m just out or work - to be fair the redness hasn’t spread and has actually got slightly better but the 2 separate blisters have now merged and become one big yellow blister so it’s still really painful

Looks like a bite.

TokyoSushi · 24/08/2023 15:54

Ooh I'm on holiday and have been thinking of you throughout the day OP, let us know how you get on!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 24/08/2023 15:54

It looks like a burn, but you'd know if you'd done that. But whatever it is, it looks really sore so I hope you get it sorted.
