Nitty gritty comb used

Something brown near red arrow? Is this a hatched headlouse?

Have mostly been getting eggs, so it is a continual cycle

OP posts:
mnusername2022 · 22/08/2023 21:35

Hoping this is an actual lice?

(Forgive poor spelling)

Looks like it could be an actual nit rather than an egg.
Have you used any lotion to kill them off?
Just brushing alone would take forever to get them all - you can get all different lotions at the chemist - some only need to be on for 5-10 mins too

Shameless bump

Have used lyclear twice and now today thr nitty gritty shampoo/solution

It's the reinfection I can't get my head around. How do we avoid that?

Kids back at school (they are clear, adults now have them?

I can't tell from that photo, sorry. I just wanted to add that when mine were little and I used the Nitty Gritty sometimes it picked up bits of old cradle cap so just throwing that out there for you to discount!

whatamess100 · 22/08/2023 21:44

Your in my thoughts, we had a nit pandemic last year it took 4 weeks, it was awful and all the products and combing wrecked my hair.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 22/08/2023 21:44

It doesn't look like a louse to me really, more like a nit. If it was a louse it would crawl about and it wouldn't be so round, I think. Lice kind of look cloudy white with a thin line of brown down the middle.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 22/08/2023 21:44

We used Hedrin once. Always did the trick for us.

Hi OP

I feel your pain as when DD was little we had a phases where it felt like she had them constantly for about 6 months Confused it really is hell.

I seem to remember finding online a guide to the life cycle of them taking into account when the young nits lay their eggs, they then hatch etc and I used the nit comb and cheap conditioner religiously for the entire period I think it was 3 or 4 weeks? But not every night. Plus I caught them a few times so that was a laugh.

I'll see if I can find it

We didn't use any medicated shampoo just the comb and conditioner

pleasedontplayfuckgLoveShack · 22/08/2023 21:46

I became obsessed with checking the tissue with a magnifying glass Grin

Bleepbloopbluurp · 22/08/2023 21:47

When they are very tiny it is hard to tell.

Put it on something white - eg kitchen roll and then shine a lamp on it so it warms up. If it's alive it will likely move.

The nit stuff often needs a few doses IME, (and leaving on for longer than the packet suggests. )

A nit is an empty louse egg.
Lice come out of the eggs leaving the nit behind

Jellybean23 · 22/08/2023 21:49

It doesn't have legs so it's not a louse. Google images of head lice to get an idea of what you are looking for.

mnusername2022 · 22/08/2023 21:49

This is such a stpid question .... is there anyone you can go to for them to check what is in your hair? ...... is it old infwstation, new......how will i know when the headluce have actually left?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 22/08/2023 21:50

Wipe it onto a bit of kitchen roll/toilet paper to see if it has legs. You don't need to keep washing pillow cases

pleasedontplayfuckgLoveShack · 22/08/2023 21:51

Some info here on days -

Think this was the guide I used -

They should never have done away with the nit nurse who regularly inspected children's heads in schools.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/08/2023 21:53

Are you doing all the members the family at the same time and then again 2 weeks later?

dementedpixie · 22/08/2023 21:48

…… except nits contain lice before they have hatched… so PP means it looks like that, not the egg shell, but the egg containing a baby louse.

Beamur · 22/08/2023 21:59

I used to comb through with conditioner, repeat every day/other day until no eggs/nits/ lice on comb.
Do again after 10 days (same as above) then once every month. Do everyone in the family.
No need to change pillows or worry about the sofa.
Tie hair back at school. Tea tree shampoo or vosene seems to keep it down too.

Jellybean23 · 22/08/2023 22:01

The lice lay eggs and cement them to hair close to the scalp where the eggs stay nice and warm. Apparently, the heat from hair straighteners will kill the eggs.
