I am 50, in perimenopause and my pms is literally horrendous. I have always wondered if I had the more severe form but now I am pretty convinced. For a couple of days running up to my period, I can have suicidal thoughts. It’s because I track my cycle closely that I can monitor it. Yesterday, Day 2 of my cycle was so awful- I was SO low and yet today I can literally tell the hormone storm has passed and I feel ok again. So what do I do?

Aibu to ask for your experiences/diagnosis/treatment. I probably need HRT but I am VERY wary of progesterone as the pill gave me similar feelings years ago. I am concerned about my fluctuating cycle as I had one month where my symptoms went on and on and o felt so low.

Any advice?

Sertraline even me out nicely instead of the horrible moods dips. Mirena has stopped my peri nightmare periods (wish I had it put in years ago but I was so wary of progesterone) and use patch to top up estrogen

@Hankunamatata ooh that’s interesting about the mirena- I have been thinking about it but was worried for same reason
