AIBU to ask where you buy your suitcases?

I haven't bought one for years (if ever tbh!), usually take my parents old ones!

I am wanting to buy a set, must be four wheel, open to hard or soft case. I definitely need a medium and hand luggage size but will probably get a third, undecided currently if that will be a second medium or a large.

I don't want to spend a fortune as they seem to get damaged so easily but would like half decent quality. Any suggestions?

TK Max

cocksstrideintheevening · 21/08/2023 15:30

Ooops - TK Maxx. We have large 4 wheel hard shell ones, they are really light, have been on over 20 flights so far and still in good condition. Think they were £80ish, brand is Constellia

PinkiOcelot · 21/08/2023 15:30

As above, I bought dds case from TKmax. I bought mine from Matalan. I’ve looked at cases in Primark and they’re reasonably priced and good quality. I think they’re IT cases.

BarbaraofSeville · 21/08/2023 15:34

We have the carry on versions of these but there's matching full size ones

American Tourister Jet Driver 55cm Carry On Hardside Spin... (costco.co.uk)

American Tourister Jet Driver 79cm Large Hardside Spinner... (costco.co.uk)

They're slightly cheaper in store if you have a Costco membership.

Campervangirl · 21/08/2023 15:41

I actually bought mine from Primark, the make is IT, hard case, large ones £30 each.
They had matching items too, you can wheel them upright or slanted, 4 wheels, absolutely brilliant.

Topseyt123 · 21/08/2023 15:49

Mine is from TKMax

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/08/2023 15:54

John Lewis

They have these in Asda at the minute, the IT ones.

Nix32 · 21/08/2023 16:01

The IT brand are brilliant! Buy direct from their website. You might not need as big as you think. We ended up with the medium sized because the large ones were too big to fit in the car (we needed 3). They expand as well.

Spanglybangles · 21/08/2023 16:04

Ours are Tripp. Great colour selection and reasonably priced. Also have TSA locks.

Otherwise, would also suggest Costco or TK Maxx.

Cinnamonandcoal · 21/08/2023 16:05

Just bought some from America Tourister. Seem good quality, super light.

Backtoreality1 · 21/08/2023 16:06

TKMaxx usually although bought some brilliant ones from Argos recently for work.

PriamFarrl · 21/08/2023 16:07

Tripp. They used to be in Debenhams but now they are online only.

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/08/2023 16:09

Thanks! Looks like TK Maxx, Costco and Primark are good places to start!

TK Maxx always have a good selection. I got one from there from the Modo by Roncato range recently, it is fab.

I would avoid Tripp - I had one years ago that was great but ones I bought more recently broke really really quickly.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 21/08/2023 17:23

I have Samsonite because my parents have them. They last forever. I think I bought mine in either John Lewis or a luggage shop in town. Find the brand you want and google where you can get them.

ThreeLittleDots · 21/08/2023 17:25

Argos

BringOnSummerHolidays · 21/08/2023 17:26

To give you an idea how long they lasted. My first one in my 20s were from when my dad was travelling on his own in his 20s. I bought my own ones when I had my first job. Dad old one had two wheels and the new ones are all four wheels. That was in my 20s and I still have that one now and I'm late 40s. I now have two more because of DH and children. The last one I bought was when DC1 was little so at least 10 years. I travel with them at least once or twice a year on planes.

Nottodaty · 21/08/2023 17:34

we bought one from primark last year for our daughter , went to use it this year and the zip had broke!

We have a set from Samsonite we bought many years ago - husband regularly travels and the little one has later being pulled through many cities and airports. We replaced the primark one with another medium size from samsonite and it’s so light.

Samsonite is more expensive but we originally bought them on a sale & the recent one we found a 30% of code. They’ve lasted a good few years & still going, wish I’d saved the money spent on the primark one and just got the samsonite one.

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/08/2023 17:37

Samonite they last. We picked up our last one on holiday as ran out of room and had a large baggage allowance.

Bigfishlittle · 21/08/2023 17:42

bought from b and m. Soft shell -
medium but they had lots of different colours and sizes :)

CatsOnTheChair · 21/08/2023 17:51

TK Maxx.
But then I don't care about matching sets, and go for bright, random, colours so we can pick them off the carousel.

Ours tend to last 3/4 years. But DH travels 90 days a year, and we used to live abroad. They probably get used (and abused) a bit more than a typical suitcase

MadamWhiteleigh · 21/08/2023 17:53

Samsonite are good but very expensive.

We have these and wouldn't use anything else.

Ordered off antler (.co.uk). Other family members like Tripp.
