Just that...
You see all those diet plans with the claim of losing 7-10 lbs in 3 weeks and looking lots better.

Has anyone done this in real life? If so how? And did you actually slim down/look or feel better? Fit into a specific outfit etc or make a real change?

(A friends wedding in 3/4 weeks and would love to feel and look better). Size 14 5ft3 and sedentary job not by choice but by nature!

I lost more than that after my mum died.
It triggered gout and I got quite unwell.
Do it steadily. Don't risk your health.

Seashor · 20/08/2023 21:51

I’ve done it by intermittent fasting, dropping carbs, sugar and alcohol and exercising all at the same time. Hard but great for fast, short term weight loss.

Circumferences · 20/08/2023 21:52

No 😂

You'd need to eat less than 500 calories per day and exercise an hour a day to lose that amount in three weeks.
Your body would be so shocked you'd probably experience health problems as a result.

A safe and easy weight loss plan is 1-2lb per week, not 3lb per week.

VeridicalVagabond · 20/08/2023 21:52

I was 14st when I started actively trying to lose weight - went very low carb, high protein and fat. HIIT & weight training five days a week, yoga/pilates the other two, alongside my usual daily cardio walking/running with the dogs. I dropped to 13.2st in 3 weeks, had dropped a stone within a month, then the loss steadied and evened out to 1-2 lbs a week. But the first stone fell off. I genuinely couldn't tell though, physically I don't think I looked that different.

It's doable but does require some effort, and depends upon your personal body and metabolism. It's probably not healthy to lose than much weight so fast, for me it was an extreme and abrupt change in lifestyle. Slow and steady is usually best, especially for sustainability.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 20/08/2023 21:53

I lost 9lb in that time doing the very unmumsnetty Slimming world

TokyoSushi · 20/08/2023 21:55

Yes. I've very recently lost 1st 4lb in 7 weeks by eating 1200 calories per day and exercising about 5 days per week. You can do it!

NorthWestThree · 20/08/2023 21:56

I lost 8.5lb in the first 3 weeks of doing Slimming World. I lost 4.5lb in my first week and then 2lb a week the next 2.

Upandonward · 20/08/2023 21:59

Have a look at the Fast800 plan by Michael Mosley. It’s very doable, and safely.

Merryoldgoat · 20/08/2023 22:04

Yes.

but I’m very fat so weight loss is quicker. I am on keto and like it because I don’t have to count calories which I detest.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 20/08/2023 22:05

I did, lost 5lb in week one then 5lb over the following 2 weeks. But most of that was water weight and it didn't really make much difference to my shape. It's not possible to lose that much fat in 3 weeks unless you have a very large amount to lose.

RedToothBrush · 20/08/2023 22:07

I lost half a stone in a week.

I was on the norovirus diet.

I don't recommend it.

Viewfrommyhouse · 20/08/2023 22:08

Totally doable. 1200 calories a day ( you need to log EVERY SINGLE THING that passes your lips. I use MFP) and 10k steps.

Eyelashesoffire · 20/08/2023 22:09

Yes - Fast 800. I lost 10 lbs in just under a month. I probably wouldn't do it any longer than 4 weeks as I've heard you can damage your metabolism doing it for a longer time. But I was never hungry. I did a fair amount of exercise as well - walking, cycling mostly.

1stepforward2stepsback · 20/08/2023 22:09

Yes, close, but it will just be water and it goes straight back on.

Pick a nice outfit that flatters your existing figure and go as you are.

A good pair of skinny-knickers and decent bra will make more difference than 3 weeks of extreme dieting.

Having said I lost the weight I'd actually agree with this - find something flattering to wear that you look and feel great in.

PermanentTemporary · 20/08/2023 22:11

Yes thats completely doable for me on something like Atkins or keto but a) I'm a good bit fatter than you and b) not for more than a week.

I'd start keto and do a plank every day to maximise toning your stomach.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 20/08/2023 22:13

Yes; I had a weight restricted activity coming up so it really was all about weight, not health or how I looked. Lost a stone in a month.

Meal replacement protein shakes and one minimal low carb meal a day. Nuts if desperate and lots and lots of fluids and walking. Not fun or sustainable long term but effective and bearable.

It was a good kickstart to then start a healthier more sustainable life - i think you need some quick results to get hooked and connected to your body.

Hishine · 20/08/2023 22:14

I lost 14 pounds in 2.5 weeks on low carb diet

Pencilsaremylife · 20/08/2023 22:14

Yes but I am very overweight, I needed to lose a lot of weight to be put on a waiting list for surgery. I was incredibly motivated and kept up the 7lbs loss every 3 weeks or so. Surgeon was amazed how quickly I did it, did intermittent fasting and ate mostly fruit and veg with tiny bits of carbs ( I’m veggie anyway) took a multivitamin to cover any shortfall in nutrition. Not a good way to do it though as I’ve put all the weight back on.

SprinkleOfSunak · 20/08/2023 22:14

I lost 10 pounds in one week following the chemical diet (you can search it online). It states that you can lose 1 stone in a week, and it was invented by a Surgeon for their patients to follow if they were too overweight for surgery.

When I say I followed the diet, I didn’t actually read it properly, and didn’t follow it to the letter, so was delighted that I still managed to lose 10 pounds in the week.

The chemical diet really kickstarted further weight loss for me, and a healthier regime, including going to the gym 3 times per week. I didn’t put any of the initial 10 pounds back on, and lost 2 pounds each week, and 4 in another week. I ended up losing around 2 stone in total in around 2 months and felt fabulous, and was hoping to lose more, then I went through a really bad time and my depression reared its’ head and I’ve put it all back on plus some!

Hishine · 20/08/2023 22:15

Lost 3 stone in total but weight loss slowed down a lot after the first month

Luckydog7 · 20/08/2023 22:15

I lost 14lb in 10 days after my tonsilectomy where I couldn't eat more then a few mouthfuls of food a day other then litres of ice water.

I also lost a stone in 3 week at 24 the first time I ever did low carb.

3 big spoonfuls of natural yoghurt for bf.

Low carb soup (meat and veg and cream) for lunch.

A SMALL (half my normal portion) of a lc meat based dinner with green veggies. So meatballs in tomato sauce. Shepards pie with celeriac mash topping, creamy chicken with bacon etc etc.

Applescruffle · 20/08/2023 22:19

Of course you can lose 7-10lbs in 3 weeks!!
For some people - that's nothing.
And its not because they are following some ridiculous diet - its because everyone's bodies work differently and everyone has differnet starting weights.

If you start at say, 20 stone, then 7lb in your first week is very reasonable and you might even be pretty dissapointed if you've only lost 7 in three weeks.

CombatBarbie · 20/08/2023 22:21

I literally upped my steps from less than 7000 to 17-20000 a day and stopped snacking.

A safe and easy weight loss plan is 1-2lb per week, not 3lb per week.

Nonsense.

It is perfectly achievable on a 1250 calorie a day diet.

Egg white and spinach omelette for breakfast
Chicken salad (150grams lean meat) for lunch
Fish and vegetables for dinner
2-3 litres of water a day

No bread, rice, pasta, flour, potatoes (sweet potato ok in small amounts). Literally nothing but the above.

Repeat for 21 days. I lost 12lbs.

Boring and often felt hungry but was very good for my skin tone, bloating etc. Looked noticeably slimmer.
