My daughter is about to depart for Australia. I can feel my anxiety rising knowing her time of departure. Is it normal to feel like you need to run to her and scream, "Don't go."

Not unusual I’d say. Is it her first trip away? How old is she?

TizerorFizz · 20/08/2023 17:24

Emigrating or holiday?

KnowledgeableMomma · 20/08/2023 18:41

Totally normal to feel this way. We always want to keep them close where we know they are safe and when they start to be more independent, it's always hard (though necessary). I think more info is needed.....how old and what is the trip for?

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 20/08/2023 18:44

I don’t think it’s normal to want to run and scream, no. I do think it’s normal to be a bit anxious about how it will all work. Is she coming back or going to live?

Seeleyboo · 20/08/2023 22:48

She's emigrating, and she's 23. We have always been close. Just so hard right now.

I would feel exactly the same.

TizerorFizz · 20/08/2023 23:14

To do what? Seems a very early decision in her life.

WellPlaced · 20/08/2023 23:17

It’s so very hard.

The great thing is that you have given her this amazing start in life and the strength to make such a big decision.

You have done well 💐

Sickofchangingmyfuckingusername · 20/08/2023 23:43

You’ve done your job well if she is taking this enormous step at 23 yo. I would be genuinely inconsolable.

I met my friend a few days after her ds emigrated to Australia. As soon as she saw me she burst into tears. She was devastated but gradually got used to it. We are in lreland where the young people are constantly moving abroad. Saying that he returned after a few years so all is not lost. Its not easy but we have to let them live their own lives. Start saving for your first visit.

Thanks to you all. I feel a little better today. Not so doom and gloom.
