That the bar is set so low...

That a bloke buying shoes for what I presume is his child on the Deichmann adverts is worthy of such amazement. Seriously, this is how low the benchmark is?

Not seen the advert but the usual par for the course would be showing men to be incompetent idiots?

WhateverMate · 20/08/2023 13:39

Haven't seen the advert.

Can you link to it?

Aprilx · 20/08/2023 13:40

Do we have to go and search for an advert to know what you are talking about?

Curtains70 · 20/08/2023 13:44

Haven't seen it but in general I understand where you're coming from.

Myself, DH and kids went out for lunch with my Mum yesterday. We were all getting ready to leave and DH suggested that I stay out for a bit with my Mum and have a glass of wine.

At around 6pm my Mum said oh you better get home to put the kids to bed. I said oh let's have another as we were having a lovely time. She was astonished that DH would put the kids to bed and not be annoyed at me for staying out. She called him a super star 🤣.

Now he is a super star and a great Dad but not because he put his own kids to bed while I had a drink with my Mum!

JayniSummers · 20/08/2023 13:44

Can't find a link but the premise is , bloke takes child who mum describes as " difficult" to buy for and because he is clearly a superhero he in fact finds it no problem at all , to the total amazement of his partner who thanks him for ' taking one for the team "

Shoes , he bought shoes , an essential piece of clothing for a child . And he had NO. Issue in doing so .

Good grief

JayniSummers · 20/08/2023 13:46

Sorry unable to link it , apologies if you've not seen it . Because it's on at least three times a day ( and I lose my s* it each time ) I presumed it was more viewed than it clearly is

It's not on deichmann site either.
I've seen so many ads completely misrepresented on here, we need to see it before judging🤷

That's exactly what I was going to say!

I'm not saying the OP is misrepresenting but it happens because sometimes we see things through biased glasses?

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 20/08/2023 13:57

Not seen it but I'm guessing it's got you unsettled (?) In that a child who is difficult to buy for generally means mum has dragged kid around doing multiple shops/chores so both are overtired and fraught. Whereas the dad just has the one job, one shop. I'm guessing it's that as that is how it played out in my house over the years . Yes I was that fool 🙄

WhateverMate · 20/08/2023 13:58

OK I've gone for YABU because there's no link.

If one turns up, I might change my vote 😂

I think the mum comes out worst in that ad, OP!

(Shockingly crap acting by all concerned, too!)

amberisola · 20/08/2023 14:09

YANBU or misrepresenting it OP. I rolled my eyes at it as well. All that praise for buying some shoes, after probably being given detailed instructions as to size, type, etc!

cadburyegg · 20/08/2023 14:10

God how utter cringe. The mum thanking the dad too 🤮

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 20/08/2023 14:12

Oh geeze...my teeth are itching at that adv. So much sugary sweetness 🙄

Thanks , he probably called her before buying . He will definitely remind her of this amazing task completed.

I'm in no way projecting my own husband in this rant who is currently expecting medals for some top notch lawn mowing of our stamp size lawn

TheAOEAztec · 20/08/2023 14:13

Ha yeah that's cringe

RavingStone · 20/08/2023 14:13

Yeah.

A friend of mine who considers herself extremely progressive and woke caught my partner changing our baby's nappy and thought it was the most amazing thing in the world.

I was like wtf? He does all the changes when he's not at work! Why on earth wouldn't he? Not just for giving me a break, but because routine, mundane care is one of the ways adults bond with babies and small children.

Namechangedforthis25 · 20/08/2023 14:17

So I think YABU

awful cringe advert - but I don’t think it’s about worshiping the dad. It just so happens that it’s dad taking her to buy the shoes and instead of her being her normal difficult self the choice at the store made things easier for her to choose. So they could spend the rest of the afternoon doing other more fun things

so it’s bigging up the shop not dad

WhateverMate · 20/08/2023 14:17

Ahh now I've seen it YANBU OP.

It's like he's the only one who's ever heard of that shop 🙄

SaleOfTwoTitties · 20/08/2023 14:18

I've voted yabu because you made me watch that advert, and now I'm in a bad mood.

Yes it's definitely bigging up the shop, but it's like the dad is so 'clever' only he knows to take the kid there.

ABCmom91 · 20/08/2023 14:24

I wonder if she calls you a superstar for putting your kids to bed!

It really annoys me that dads get praise for doing what mums do every single day.

I went to mediation with my ex over contact with our DD.
The mediator guy told me he thinks my ex is a good dad.

I asked him why he thought that and he said because he showed him photos of him with her at the park - I said I arranged to meet him at the park as he’d only met her twice before, once when she was a baby and once when she was a toddler and she so didn’t know who he was.

So I had raised her single handily for years and he didn’t bother with her, yet him taking a photo together at the park meant he was a good dad!
I was enraged! Lol
