To think this is a poor response

From local police. DS’s who are 12 and 13 were playing in local woods next to a children’s park and found a large knife hidden in a sock which was hidden under something else. Local police say just dispose of it safely in our bin. Given the rise in knife crime surely this is a poor response from them? It had clearly been hidden there for a reason

The sock was a teen size Nike sock

I'd just take it to a police station and let them deal with it, they wouldn't be allowed to just bin it.

Thats exactly what they would do. There isn't the funds to go running fingerprints and DNA tests on random knives that have been found. If they were looking for one their response would have been different.

We had a knife thrown into our yard by a teenager running away from some other teenagers. We were told just to bin it.

Genuinely wondering what you thought they would do?
