Fly infestation

Help!

We had rats in the basement (Cheers next door) and one has obviously died and now we have hundreds of flies in the basement. I'm a stage 4 cancer patient on iv antibiotics at home at the moment so I'm not about to go in the basement to find the rat and dispose of it.

DH is coming home from a week away with work.

Should we;

A. Take down the plaster board to find the rat and get rid of it

B. Get fly spray and fly paper and kill the bastards

C. Set fire to the house as it's the only thing to do ?

I'm so sorry, you have enough to deal with without this.

I had an infestation of flies all over my flat a few weeks back and it really got to me. I don't tend to kill anything but it got to the stage I was killing hundreds a day. They just kept coming though. I tried all the remedies and nothing worked. Eventually I found the source (a bag of compost in my porch), removed it and they were gone almost instantly. I think the only way is to dispose of the source. I'm hoping it's not the rat, but something easy to get to and rid of. Good luck, I hope you get rid of them asap.

We’ve had this in our loft. The dead rat is the food source for the maggots so has to go asap or they will just keep multiplying. We then got some fly smoke things off Amazon, set them off and shut them in there. It took a few goes but we were fly free in two or three weeks.

Ok thank you! I think the plan must be get the smoke things from Amazon and get DH to take the plasterboard down that has a suspicious green tinge to it

Fly paper is shit.

I live somewhere that has a weird fly issue right now. These things are the best thing we’ve used.

Urgh, I feel your pain. We used those traps and whilst they do smell like rotting meat they work phenomenally well, ours was full to the brim within 3 days.

Poor you, poor DH, bloody rats
