Daughter “thinks” she damaged another car

Hello, sorry if not the right “topic”….my daughter told to me that she “may” have hit her car door against another car in a car park. She wasn’t sure but was pretty upset so it seems to me that she probably did! We had already left so I drove straight back and handed my details into the reception just incase. They said they had heard nothing but would let us know if someone contacts them. Is there anything else I should do (apart from parking away from other cars in future)? It feels like it’s not enough?

You’ve gone back and passed on details so you’ve done the right thing. If someone notices and complains then hopefully reception will pass it on.

I’d probably suggest parking further away from other cars whilst she learns to only open her door a little. I’d also walk around and hold her door as she gets out.

Forget about it and move on with your life.

Poppyblush · 19/08/2023 20:37

She should have checked and left her number. Why should someone wise pay for her carelessness.

FelicityBeedle · 19/08/2023 20:41

@Poppyblush
It reads like a small child not a young driver

Badbudgeter · 19/08/2023 20:43

I bought a car with sliding rear doors for this reason.

@Poppyblush
If you read the op's post again you will see that the op did go back and leave her contact details with reception.

Should have done this when she told you in the first place, let alone going back and leaving your details. Why go looking for bother?

BIossomtoes · 19/08/2023 20:54

I actually hit another car in Tescos car park one day. Got customer services to tannoy the owner twice, left my details at the desk AND on their windscreen and never heard a word.

Thanks for your replies! And yes i did a u-turn and went straight back when she told me (she didn’t tell me straight away, was about 5 minutes after we left!). She is only 6. I thought I was far away from other cars but it was a very windy day. Thanks for your replies, will consider them all! X

This is a great idea, may I ask what car you have?

Thank you, yes I did leave my number with reception after my 6 year old told me what she thinks she did x

In my experience, a door opening on your car would have to be opened pretty forcibly for it to leave anything like a mark. How hard did your 6yo actually open her door?

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 19/08/2023 23:48

Overthinking much?

It happened, you have done the right thing by banding your details into reception.

Surely that's the end of it?

Gardeni · 20/08/2023 00:36

Yes thanks for your responses. And I didn’t see my daughter do it, it was windy; she opened the door (she isn’t really allowed to do it). I didn’t know there was a problem until we drove away, I drove back when she told me. Gave my name, address, phone number, and yes I think that’s the end of it I was just checking I didn’t need to do anything else. Thanks again for your replies x

I would put the child lock on her door for another year.

Gardeni · 20/08/2023 00:46

Child lock is on but she was going back into the car, she opened the car door before I could stop her! She knows she isn’t allowed to open the door without me but she ran ahead and did what she did (her door wasn’t touching the next car from what I could see)… I’m probably over thinking was just checking there was nothing else I needed to do. It was a tiny car park.
