Laser hair removal vs electrolysis

I went for a consult today the lady identified I have coarse hair and some of it is white. She said waxing would not be that effective for me (it does seem to work ok.. I can remove the hair whereas she thought they were too thick to remove).

She thought I may have PCOS - (I've not been diagnosed but am sadly that hairy!). She said that in my case electrolysis is not always permanent, you can have years of treatment and never stop the hairs growing.

That laser treatment is far better as you could have 10 sessions then may only need to return once a year to top up.

The NHS says electrolysis is the only permanent form of hair removal.. and that laser removal is not effective at all on light hairs.

I felt she was giving me the 'heavy sell' on laser - but maybe it is the best.. so..

YANBU _ Go for electrolysis

YABU - Go for laser treatment

Any opinions or advice - would be great. (I've posted in AIBU for traffic)Thanks

I had laser for PCOS hair growth about 10 years ago. It did a marvellous job on my dark hairs, which it would because it works well on dark hair on pale skin. Unfortunately, it began to grow back after about 5 years, and despite top up sessions, I am more or less back to where I was before.

My laser technician told me that electrolysis is the only way to get rid of the white/pale hairs because laser will not pick them up if they don’t contrast with the skin. Electrolysis is also permanent, but I believe carries a risk of scarring, and is perhaps more painful. I am considering it now because as I’m going grey so is more of my facial hair, and I’d like to get rid of it again.

I have laser on my underarms and was told it doesn't work on pale/light hairs. I am blonde and they needed to see that the hairs were darker enough for the treatment to be worthwhile. Otherwise the lasers can stimulate growth!
