Posting for traffic - DD forgot her medication and we’re at the airport

My DD (age 19) forgot both to take her antidepressant this morning, and to bring them with her. We’re about to board the plane to Amsterdam, going for a week. I tried phoning 111 and my GP, but neither could help (we were already through security).

Is there anything we can do when we get there to get an emergency prescription for her? If not the holiday is going to be a write off, I know from previous experience of her missing a day or two she gets awful withdrawals, and her dose has been upped recently so I’d imagine it’s going to be even worse. I realise any option is probably going to cost £££££ but I’d rather pay and save the holiday if possible.

Could ask gp to email prescription but at 3.55 that's unlikely

Is their a Boots at the airport? You could try and see if you can get an emergency prescription for a week's supply.

Lenald2512 · 18/08/2023 15:58

Has anyone got a key? Can you get them to post them to your hotel?

00100001 · 18/08/2023 15:58

Well, as the adult in this situation, she can surely get herself home and collect her medicine?
And if she misses the flight, she can look to get on the next one.

Smartiepants79 · 18/08/2023 15:58

Might have more luck with a doctor in Amsterdam.
and don’t tell them you’ve forgotten them. You’ll get more sympathy if you tell them they’ve been lost or similar!

00100001 · 18/08/2023 15:59

It's not as if flights to Amsterdam are few and far between, and they're not terribly expensive...

She won't forget her medicine again...

Can she go get her meds and catch the next flight? I don't know how easy it'll be to get the medication in Amsterdam so I wouldn't rely on that.

Lenald2512 · 18/08/2023 16:02

So, anyone who has a spare key to your home can post them?

Have you tried googling the medication name (generic not brand) availability in the Netherlands (use Google translate for phrases like over the counter, pharmacy, prescription), put those into Google and then use translate to show the results in english

You could also try private online GPs who might be able to provide a prescription for fulfillment in amsterdam

My DS is 19 (20 in November) and I'd fully expect him to firstly remember his own medicine, and if this happened find a way to sort it out. I'd help him where I could, sub him the money or whatever, but he is more than capable of getting a taxi/bus/train back home and booking a flight and getting himself to the airport.and joining us the next day.

00100001 · 18/08/2023 16:04

He has, shockingly, managed to get himself all the way to the US on his own, to Europe by train etc hired a car and travelled to Scotland for a holiday.... I'd expect most 19yo to be independent tbh.

MirandaWest · 18/08/2023 16:04

Which antidepressant is it?

Natsku · 18/08/2023 16:05

You might risk someone posting them to you if they can access the house, but if customs looks at the parcel, which they quite likely will because brexit, then they might be confiscated (unless maybe the prescription is in the parcel too)

Do you have good travel insurance? Maybe try and get an urgent appointment in amsterdam, say they were lost en route.

panko · 18/08/2023 16:06

Can she go and get it and get on a later flight

Clefable · 18/08/2023 16:06

Could someone get them from your home and courier them to you?

Antidepressants can cause "brain fog", forgetfulness and organisational difficulties so can depression, which is most commonly treated with antidepressants (clue is in the name) so it's unlikely she has willfully forgotten to bring them.

This. So simple.

dahliadazed · 18/08/2023 16:06

Is there a pharmacy in the airport? Ask if they have stock and then book a private online gp appointment.

Speak to your travel insurance, perhaps they can help arrange the medication in Amsterdam.

2023usernameNew · 18/08/2023 16:07

If you have something sent by post/courier, you’ll have to declare what it is for customs purposes (Brexit).

I don’t know if medication will be stopped and ask you for a copy of a prescription or something. But expect it to not arrive the following day, things take time now.

I guess you could lie and declare it’s something else, but it’s up to you if you’d want to risk being found out.

I know from experience of having stuff shipped to both Spain and France.

Soozikinzii · 18/08/2023 16:07

We've done this loads of times my DH is on alot of meds . Ring 111 they can access your prescription from your GPs surgery and get them to ping it to tge Boots at the airport . We've done this at the lake District , Euston Station Cruise ship in Palma and York ! Forgetful is our middle name !

VeryGoodVeryNice · 18/08/2023 16:08

Dd is disabled and mentally a lot younger, so no she can’t get herself home, get her meds and catch a flight by herself. Especially as she doesn’t drive and we live in the arse end of nowhere.

sertraline 100mg is what she takes. We are literally at the gate so any uk options aren’t options anymore.

So? We all mak mistakes. that's fine. I'd still assume she would be the one to remember/check. Just like her passport etc.

And I would still expect her to sort the problem out by going home to get them, or organising someone to post them, or whatever.

dahliadazed · 18/08/2023 16:09

Call your insurance once you get there then, did you declare all medical issues when buying?
