Booked a place to stay for the weekend through booking.com.
Arrived today and found an issue. Tried all contact numbers but no answer. There was a ‘for auction’ sign outside so we called them and they were surprised it had been let. Turns out the property has been repossessed and is now owned by the bank (and has been for a while by the sounds of it)
I’ve called booking.com to report because it is fraud. The ‘owners’ have made money from a property they don’t own. Booking.com did not care at all even though I would say they are liable as they are the ones advertising and clearly haven’t done their due diligence. It was left with them saying they’d look into it. I really don’t think they will.
It was paid for through Klarna who say they can’t do anything as they are ‘just’ the payment provider.
Ive also called the police who say it’s a civil matter.
No one seems to care this is fraud?
They also have our passport details as I was asked to send them to verify ID.
Please can someone advise what I can do? Both with getting something done regarding the fraud but also protecting ourselves now they have our passport details?
